Is Photoshop Generative AI getting worse, or am I just noticing it?

I've been using Photoshop Generative Fill for quite a while, and recently I've noticed a significant drop in the quality of the results.

The biggest issue for me is texture and detail. Results that previously matched the original image quite well are now often soft, blurry, or lacking the original texture. This is particularly noticeable when working with fabrics, rugs, surfaces and other detailed photographic material.

I've tested different models, including Firefly 1 and the newer models, and I'm seeing similar problems. I've also tried different prompts and selections, so I'm wondering whether something has changed on Adobe's side rather than it being an issue with my particular workflow.

I'm currently using Photoshop 27.10.

Has anyone else noticed a decline in Generative Fill quality recently, particularly with texture/detail preservation? Or is there a known change to the models or generation system?

I'd be interested to hear from other users who have been using Generative Fill professionally for a while and can compare the current results with earlier versions.

To my mind it is still as bad as it was. I´m using a mixture or firefly and photoshop to work on adding objects like tables… On last work I needed ps to add a long table covered with a purple fabric and it was impossible to fix the perspective and get a realistic table. I had to do it on firefly, downloading and adding with a ps mask, and so on with any different object that my client needed to be on the table.

I use Photoshop Gen AI extensively too and have been noticing im getting frustrated with the result more often. I also feel that Generative Upscale used to yield better result. Now everything is just a ‘bigger-mush’ looking upscale.

Another user posted about this a while ago and I was able to find an old test-image and on redoing the generation there it seemed that Firefly 1 has indeed been subject to changes in recent time.

But for a quite a few use cases the partner models seem to yield better results anyway.
