Is there any way to add more contrast to the close button for open images? (The X to the left of an open image tab?) I am using mac os with dark theme in photoshop.

under Preferences/Interface, None of the color themes have any contrast on this X button I also think It would be nice if the cursor changed to the arrow as an additional indication the the button is there.

Not inside of Photoshop, but try macOS as suggested by exusa. I use Command+W to close, which may (or may not) work for you.

Depending on the version of macOS you have, there are settings in Accessibility that might help. Can you post a screenshot that shows the problem? I personally hate dark theme so I don’t see this problem on macOS Tahoe although there are other UI issues to deal with.
