Issue: Photoshop interrupts and cancels any tool input after few seconds

Issue:
When opening any photo in Photoshop and using a tool or adjusting a setting (e.g., Lasso Tool, Brush Tool, Adjustment Layer), the input is interrupted after several seconds. If a tool is used continuously for more than ~3 seconds, Photoshop cancels the action. For example, the lasso selection is discarded or an ongoing brush stroke is abruptly stopped.

Photoshop version: 27.1
OS and version: Windows 11 Version 24H2 (Build 26100.2894)

Reproduce this behavior to face the issue

Step 1: Open any image in Photoshop.
Step 2: Select a tool such as the Lasso Tool, Brush Tool, or open an adjustment (e.g., Adjustment Layer settings).
Step 3: Use the tool or keep adjusting settings continuously for more than 4 seconds. - After several seconds of continuous input, Photoshop stops registering the action. The current tool operation is canceled / interrupted.

Expected result:

Photoshop should allow continuous tool usage (lasso drawing, brushing, adjusting settings, etc.) for as long as the user is interacting, without canceling or interrupting the input.

Actual result:

After several seconds of continuous use (approx. 3 - 5 seconds), Photoshop cancels the current input.

  • Lasso selections are aborted and disappear.

  • Brush strokes stop mid-stroke.

  • Adjustments or tool interactions reset to default.

Hey, @defaultbgwsfojq8liv. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out.

I've tried to recreate this, but I couldn't recreate it exactly. Please share a video of the issue and the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > Upload and attach here.

If your tools are switching/toggling, you can change the sensitivity of the Spring-loaded keyboard shortcuts, or disable it altogether. Head here to learn more: https://adobe.ly/4pSx7Fd

Thanks!

Hi Sameer,
thanks for your reply. I recreated the issue for you using the tools you mentioned.
I found that the problem occurs exactly four times, and after the fourth time it works normally again. It also seems that the issue only appears when opening an image in Photoshop — it does not occur when creating a new document. Could it be that the issue is related to the “Contextual Taskbar”?

Thanks!
