Question

Jeff Schewe RIP

I see from the beta version splash screen that we have lost Jeff Schewe.  Jeff was an occasional poster on this forum back in the days when Chris Cox worked for Adobe.  He could be a grumpy bugger, but he was your man if you wanted to make the best possible large format prints.  Jeff was mainly found on the Luminous Landscape site with Michael Reichmann and others.  You’d need to be brave to get into one of the online arguments discussions he was so fond of, but he was helpful if you got him on a good day.  I think he would be pleased if he was still here to see his face on the Photoshop splash screen.

    😁

    Yeah, now that you mention it, it was a very “masculine” environment, and I put that in quotation marks because if that’s masculinity, they can have it. Actually, that’s what I got banned for. I think I may have inadvertently dropped the phrase “big swinging d”, not something you want to do in a polite conversation 😊Don’t do that, folks!

    Anyway. Jeff Schewe was an encyclopedia of photographic knowledge, no one can take that away from him. He’d argue, but he’d listen.

    @Trevor.Dennis

    To be honest, Trevor, Luminous Landscape was a horrible place, managed by gatekeepers of the true faith. If you dared contradict the four or five top dogs there, you were in for a rough ride. But Jeff wasn’t the worst by far, he wouldn’t mind an honest exchange of views.

    I managed to get myself banned at one time, some things slipped out that shouldn’t have, purely out of frustration over this. The banning was fair enough; the reasons for the frustration were not. They let me back in after a mea culpa, but it was never the same after that and I just quietly left.

    @D Fosse Dag, you might not be surprised to hear that some of what I wrote above was with you in mind.  I agree entirely with your assessment of the Luminous Landscape site and its forums.  Did you know they only ever allowed one lady to become a member of their exclusive club on the condition that she kept her beard?
