Question

Just installed latest Photoshop version ... question?

I just upgraded to Sequoia on the Mac, and just updated my Adobe programs. When I launch it is asking me if I want to "Skip loading optional and third-party plug-ins?" I'm not aware if I need this or not??? My old version of PS never asked me this when I launched. Why is this doing this now? And what do I want? I'm not really sure....

If I had plug-ins in the past, I'm not really aware what they were, as I don't recall.

Help!

That message is supposed to appear as a Photoshop startup option only if the Shift key is held down. If you’re seeing it, it means that for some reason, Photoshop thinks the Shift key is being held down. If you aren’t actually holding down the Shift key during Photoshop startup, troubleshoot to see if the cause is something like a stuck Shift key. If you’re using accessories that can be programmed to send keystrokes, such as the shortcut keys on a graphics tablet, see if one of those is interfering.

If you just upgraded to macOS 15 Sequoia, and you do have some software that can send keystrokes, make sure that software has been upgraded to a Sequoia-compatible version in case there is an incompatibility.

In general, these are some examples of how it works when starting Photoshop, going back many years (Mac shortcuts listed):

Hold down…

…to make this appear:

Shift

Skip loading optional and third-party plug-ins?

Command

Display the New Document dialog box as soon as Photoshop finishes starting up.

Option

Shift+Command+Option

Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file? (that is, reset preferences)

Command+Option

Set Scratch Disk Preferences

It stopped doing it. I don't know what I did, but I tried rebooting PS and it came up without the plugin prompt.

Thank you!

You get this dialog if you hold shift as you launch Photoshop. Perhaps your shift key is stuck?

Well, I'm not sure what happened. I just hit "Yes" when it promoted earlier. I eventuallu quit PS, just went back in and it's no longer asking me that at launch anymore. Hopefully, it won't do it again. Thank you!
