Question

Keep encountering an issue where when I use a hyphen and numbers the typing area jumps around.

After entering a number followed by a dash (hyphen) - when I press another number the text cursor places that number before the already typed out number.

    @doganxiety9

    Thank you for the video, that helps!

    What appears to be happening is that the date format is changing from U.S. English to European English. In Europe, 12/6 is June 12 (or 12 June) whereas in the U.S. 12/6 is December 6.

    Can you look at this Apple help page, then tell us what your settings are for Language and Date format?

    https://support.apple.com/en-za/guide/mac-help/mh27073/mac

    I don’t know for sure that this is the issue, but it’s worth checking it.

    Hello! Thank you all for your help but unfortunately this issue is still happening. Even when I copy and paste it reformats the text in the incorrect manner. I reset all of my Photoshop settings back to default and unchecked the Automatic detection of bullets and numbering. Here is another video. https://streamable.com/9a2wu9

    Very strange issue!

    Thanks for actively sharing the details. Just as a quick note, could you try disabling the following option in the Type settings:

    Uncheck ‘Automatic Detection of bulleted and numbered lists while typing’ and restart Photoshop.

    Thanks!

    @doganxiety9

    I wonder if it is using the Eurpean/rest of the world date format?

    For testing purposes only:

    • Can you try other dates? January 2–7, June 10—12?
    • Dates should have an en dash instead of a hyphen. Does the same thing happen when you use the proper dash?
      Option/Alt + Hyphen or Type menu > Insert Special Character > Hyphens and Dashes > En
    • What happens if you don’t type the month so it doesn’t think it’s a date?
    • What happens when you don’t have number and only letters?

    @doganxiety9 Perfect! Thank you for all the information. Let’s try a few things to troubleshoot. Try these suggestions in order:

    1. Double-check your settings under the type menu. Type > Language Options > Default Features is enabled.
    2. Also, check that your paragraph is set Left to Right.
    3. Try the type tool in a new document and see if you’re still experiencing this behavior.
    4. Disable plugins: Hold down the Shift key and click to open the application. When the dialog box appears saying "Skip loading optional and third-party plug-ins?", click Yes
    5. Try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences: https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manuall. Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset: https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/photoshop/using/preset-migration.html

    If you continue to experience this issue, I can send it to our product team to take a look and try to replicate it. Let me know how it goes! ^CH

    Hi @doganxiety9, thanks for reaching out! This can sometimes be caused by a glitch with the Type tool. Let's try resetting it first:

    1. Select the Type Tool (T)

    2. In the top Options bar, click the gear/menu icon

    3. Choose Reset Tool (or Reset All Tools)

    Then test typing again. If it still happens, we can continue to troubleshoot the issue. I hope this helps! ^CH

    Thanks for your response! I gave that a try but the issue is still happening. Here is a quick video of the problem if that helps.
