latest photoshop update 27.2.0 - crashing when using text tool

after updating photoshop to the latest verison my application is crashing when i use the text tool.

the first time i used the text tool after the update it created a tightly bound box where it looked corrupt - layers of the grab handles one on top of the next - couldn't enter in any text, zoomed in and pulled the handles apart to make it usable. started to enter in text - crashed.

rebooted the app and created a new text layer - which started normally - fake text to replace by typing - but once i started typing it crashed. 

clearly something has gone terribly wrong with the latest update re the text tool.

this needs to be fixed.

nothing has changed my end - ONLY the update to photoshop....

photoshop version: 27.2.0

OS version: sonoma 14.8.3
