Question

Layer mask issue

When you have a layer mask and then want to fill with the background colour which I have set to black, normally all you have to do is press "cmd + delete" to fill the layer mask with black.

Now it either doesn't work at all or randomly sometimes works.  It's really annoying, has anyone else come across the same problem.

I'm on a Mac mini M4 and all software is up to date.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.  Mike

cmd + I works great.  Shift + delete does bring up the Fill dialog box, - attached.  I haven't assigned cmd+delete to any action, it works half the time and I even completely uninstalled photoshop and started from scratch.  Thanks for letting me know about cmd+I, it makes working so much quicker when the shortcuts work.

Just cmd-I, that way a »Reveal All«mask actually changes to a »Hide All«-Mask and moving the Layer will not result in unwanted reveals.

Could you have assigned the shortcut to something else (either in Photoshop or the OS or …)?

Does shift-delete raise the Fill-dialog?

Here is a screen grab of my desktop.  The mask would not fill with black by pressing cmd + delete on the top layer.  My work around is to apply a brush  stroke in the empty layer and then it will cmd + delete to fill.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Channels, Options Bar, …) visible

Hey @mikes98032507,

I haven’t been able to reproduce your issue yet—I'm on a Windows machine though. When did this error start happening? Was it after a recent update? If possible, could you upload a short recording to show what’s going on? That would be super helpful.

Thanks, Alek
