Question

Layer masks are acting funky in Photoshop 2019 & 2020

Seems like my layer masks are acting really weird (in both the 2019 and 2020 versions).  Using the brush (black or white) on the layer mask is just painting on the mask - not covering or uncovering.  It's really weird.  Is anyone else experiencing this bug, or can you think of a setting that migh that have changed thats causing this?

Hi there,

That does not sound typical, could you share a screenshot of how the mask looks when you paint with black or white on it?
Also, make sure that there is no blending mode applied to the Brush or the Mask Layer.

You may also try enabling "Legacy compositing" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

Regards,
Sahil

Thanks for the reply!  I actually just figured it out - The foreground/background color jitter was somehow turned on, which was messing everything up!  Thought I was going crazy!
