Question

Layer Styles panel no longer showing live previews, even with the checkbox clicked?

In the past, I’ve been able to apply and edit strokes, color overlays, pattern overlays, drop shadows, etc, and see the changes before exiting the panel. Specifically was trying to move the pattern overlay around on the canvas before committing.

Now, even with the checkbox ticked to preview changes, I can’t see anything I’m affecting until I confirm the Layer Style. Basically designing blind.

Is this a bug?

    Hi @gb27,

Apologies for the delayed reply. Did Jeff's suggestion help resolve the issue? I also tested this in Photoshop 27.4 on macOS and was unable to reproduce the problem; the live preview in Layer Styles is working as expected here.

Please update to Photoshop 27.4 & test again, and confirm whether the issue persists.

If you’re still seeing the problem after updating, please share:

    • A short screen recording showing the behavior

    • Your full System Info (Help > System Info, copy & paste the text here)

I'm looking forward to helping you further.

    Regards,

I can suggest two things to try:

    1. Go to Photoshop 2026>Settings>Technology Previews, uncheck Enable Modern User Interface then restart Photoshop.
    2. If that doesn’t work then reset the Photoshop preferenceshttps://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/desktop/get-started/settings-and-preferences/reset-preferences.html
