Question

Logo exports appear blurry at small sizes even from high-res PSD

Hi,

I’m hoping someone can help me troubleshoot a persistent sharpness issue.

I’m creating multiple web logo sizes (970×200, 728×150, 468×96, and 320×66) from a high-resolution PSD that contains layered vector elements and live text. I’m exporting as PNG using both “Save for Web (PNG-24)” and “Export As → PNG” with Bicubic Sharper and Convert to sRGB checked.

Everything looks fine at larger sizes, but when I export the 320×66 version, the logo becomes noticeably soft or blurry — even at 100% zoom. I’ve tried:

  • Starting from both EPS and PSD versions

  • Doubling resolution for Retina (640×132)

  • Using Smart Objects, Bicubic Sharper, and different interpolation methods

  • Turning transparency on/off

  • Exporting from both RGB and CMYK versions

The original PSD is crisp (including live text for the ® symbol), so I’m not sure why exports lose sharpness.

Is there a specific setting or workflow that preserves sharp edges in very small logos? Or is this just a limitation of Photoshop’s rasterization at small pixel counts?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I've uploaded screenshots of all 4 sizes I need. The sizes are in the upper left of the screenshots. The 728 and  970 are crisp, but the 468 and 320 are blurry. Could it be that the 468 and 320 simply don't have enough pixels to create a sharp image?

Well, it is only 66 pixels high. That's not a limitation of Photoshop; that's a limitation of the file.

I think you need to show screenshots at 100%.

I really appreciate your help. I've uploaded screenshots in my reply to my post.

The 468 and 320 versions look normal to me.

The small text at the bottom is only about 3 pixels tall in the 320 version, so as you suspect, there aren't enough pixels to produce high quality text.
