Question

Marching Ants Not Showing While Dragging Marquee Tool?

This issue seemingly sprung up overnight. Whenever I drag using the marquee tool I no longer see marching ants and now get a black line instead. It’s a nightmare when working on dark layers. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled, reset preferences, updated version… Nothing seems to be fixing it. Any help would be awesome.

Hi @Marc22983991jpsc , Welcome to the Photoshop Community forum! Let's try a few things to see if we can get this working again.

    1. Check Preferences:

      • Go to Edit (Windows) or Photoshop (Mac) > Preferences > Performance.

      • Ensure that the "Use Graphics Processor" option is enabled. If it is already enabled, try toggling it off and then back on.

    2. Adjust Anti-Aliasing Settings:

      • While using the Elliptical Marquee tool, ensure that the anti-aliasing option is set correctly in the options bar. This can sometimes affect how selections are displayed.

    3. Reset the Marquee Tool:

      • Right-click (or Control-click) on the Marquee tool icon in the toolbar and select Reset Tool. This will restore the tool to its default settings.

    4. Update Graphics Drivers:

      • Ensure that your graphics drivers are up-to-date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause display issues in Photoshop.

If none of these steps work for you, we can continue to troubleshoot. I hope this helps! ^CH
