Moving work back and forth between Lightroom and Photoshop

Greetings. Up until recently, I would select one or more files in their Lightroom thumbnails and typing Command E, open them in Photoshop; later saving the newer version of the file with a simple File Save command that would automatically return a thumbnail of the enhanced file back to Lightroom. Lately, the "return" part of this process hasn't worked, and I've had to do a Save As command to return the adjusted file to its place and then go through an import process into Lightroom for the one or more adjusted files to add them to their folder mates. Is there a simple setting that's somehow gotten changed that's made this process so much more cludgy? Thanks!
