Question

My Photoshop won't open. It has failed part way through the splash screen for at least a month.

It’s opened twice in the last month maybe.. That’s after repeatedly clicking the app. But I’ve not managed to open it now for at least 2 weeks. Nothing’s changed my end. My laptop is powerful enough to run it. It’s up to date and I’ve tried reinstalling it, but no luck.

I have seen other comments on here about the same thing. Could it be that one of the latest updates is creating problems for people?

It’s frustrating as I only really use Illustrator and Photoshop. So, currently, I am paying a large subscription for software where only 50% is working. I have managed to fudge some stuff on Canva but don’t want to pay for that on top of the Adobe subscroption. And I know I could also use the online version, but it looks very AI heavy - and I just want to use it as I always have.

If anyone can help?

The splash screen lists the sub-modules as they load. What does it say when it stalls or just before it quits?

If you do manage to get it to open, go to Help > System Info, copy it and paste the whole thing here. It might show if there’s a system configuration problem.

But the very first thing I would do, is go into your user account and locate the “Adobe Photoshop 2026 Settings” folder. Move the entire folder to your desktop, so a fresh one can be rebuilt. Don’t copy it; move it. This will restore Photoshop to clean, out-of-the-box factory state. It’s here:

C > Users > (you) > AppData > Roaming > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop 2026

I tried it, but no luck I’m afraid.

@palmerowen

if that failed, retry it, but when uninstalling it opt to uninstall preferences, too

then restart your computer before reinstalling.
