Question

neural filters Crashing after applying to image PS version 26

My laptop is less than a year old and is set up to run PS.

I am updated on Windows 11.

I'm running PS v26

After it applies the Neural filter, it immediately shuts down PS, with no save.

I have removed some of the larger files to an external, and I have a lot of space on my PC.

I will run a cleanup on the laptop after posting this, but I have no expectations that it will improve the situation.

Thoughts?

Hi @12426382, welcome to the community
Could you share a bit more about what’s happening on your end? I’m curious whether this happens with every neural filter or only specific ones, and whether Photoshop shows any error message before it crashes.

A good first step is resetting Photoshop’s preferences. Just keep in mind that this will reset custom items like brushes and workspaces, so make sure to back up anything important before you do it. You can follow the steps here: https://adobe.ly/4t1WMhg

If the issue continues, it would really help if you could share your System Info. You can find it in Photoshop under Help > System Info. You can either paste it into a text file and attach it here, or share it via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or any other file‑sharing service you prefer.
Thanks a lot, and feel free to reach out with any updates.

Thank you for responding.

It happens with any Neural filter.

There's no warning or error alert.

Sadly, I bumped up to 26 somewhat recently because I was having problems with 21, which I don't think you support anymore (I liked the Neural filter selection in 21 much better than 26). Frankly, if I could get those Neural filters as found in 21 again in an older version (which is supported), I would go backwards in versions. There is nothing new in 26 that I need, and it's a space hog. There is nothing special about my preferences, except for a few plug-ins I use all the time (do they affect preferences?), so I wonder if the recommendation to toy with the preferences is worth the time?

Hi @12426382, I've also experienced trouble with Neural Filters in recent versions. But I can get them to work. I know certain Neural Filters (Depth Blur and Photo Restoration Beta) were temporarily disabled at one point, too.

Here are a few things to try:

  • Be sure you are signed in (starting from) the Creative Cloud Desktop app when you open Photoshop; don't just launch into it as a stand-alone app.
  • Try signing out from Creative Cloud Desktop and signing back in to re-authenticate and fix any panel loading issues.
  • Make sure your GPU drivers are up-to-date. If you have a NVIDIA card, install the latest Studio driver (not the Gaming driver). Right now, it's v591.74, released Jan 5, 2026.
  • It's possible that corrupted cache or internet connectivity problems caused the filters from loading properly in the first place. Don't use VPNs or firewalls that might be interfering with them.

You can also try clearing the Neural Filters cache, which means deleting the local filter data stored on your computer. Follow these steps:

  1. Quit Photoshop to ensure no filters are in use.
  2. Navigate to the filter storage folder on your system: On Windows: Go to C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\UXP\PluginsStorage\PHSP\23\Internal\com.adobe.nfp.gallery\PluginData.
  3. Delete or rename the PluginData folder to clear the cache.
  4. Restart Photoshop; the Neural Filters will re-download necessary data as needed.

Let us know if any of these fixes work!
