Question

No person can be selected in Camera Raw

Since the last update, Camera Raw no longer finds people in mask mode—neither in RAW mode nor as a filter. I always get the error message: No people can be selected in this photo.
And if anything is found, it is completely irrelevant, even objects that are not related to the persons or are beside them. See screenshots.
Is this a known issue or just to me?

But finding/selecting subjets or people with tools in menue bar is working properly.

I would like to add that I have now also tried opening the file I included in the screenshot of my son getting his green belt in CameraRaw through Bridge and I am getting the same “Unable to select people” nonsense there, as well.

Are you referring to the people in the background? If so, they very out of focus, so that’s one heck of an expectation. Even so, ‘Remove Distractions’ did find two of them.

It’s easy to add the blurred people with the mouse, and it did a decent job of cleaning up the background. Is this what you are asking about?

If you are asking about selecting the foreground people, then if that fails I agree there is an issue. They are so obviously delineated from the background, that you would be very disappointed if Photoshop could not find and create a mask for them. I am using Windows 11 and it worked OK, but I do have a MacBook Pro I could test with if it helps.

Camera Raw Masking is “Unable to select people in this photo.” in almost every photo, including ones where there are CLEARLY visible people. I am having the same issue on both my 2020 iMac and my 2024 MacBook so I opened up Lightroom Classic (which I hate using) just to test it, and I got the same thing over there, “No people found.” I have attached screenshots of the system info for both machines as well as examples that show it happening in a photo where the people should be easily found.

In Camera Raw, I Reset GPU Support, shut down the program, and restarted my computer, and it’s still present. I don’t really know which recent update started it, as I have been spending my off-season blowing through my backlog of unedited personal family snapshots which don’t require masking.

@Sameer K why was my post merged with this one but my screenshots were not included? It’s SO frustrating trying to find issues similar with the barbaric layout of this forum and I couldn’t find any. Now my issue gets merged WITH NONE OF THE SUPPORTING IMAGES I INCLUDED. We already don’t have time to be dealing with this program NOT DOING ITS JOB… wasting more time than we should need to trying to resolve it is just insult to injury.

Hey, @can@gripin. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out. Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here.

Press and hold the CMD + OPT key in Photoshop. Then, go to Photoshop in the main menu > Preferences > Camera Raw Preferences, and select 'Yes' when prompted to reset Camera Raw preferences.

Let me know if the issue still exists.

Thank you for your fast reply.
Indeed i already tried with resetting Camera raw with cmd+opt>preferences>camera raw (twice ;-), but didn’t help.

Please find attached the psd system information as a text file. Perhaps you can figure out where the problem lies.

any update for a solution?

if not, is there any possibility to downgrade camera raw - it’s because all this happened since the last or one of the last camera raw updates.
