No progress bar when saving

Hi there,

I recentley started using Photoshop 2024 after upgrading from PS 2017, so a lot of changes. So far so good, but one thing I'm missing is the save progress window that used to pop up when a save was in progress. I now have to leave full screen view and sit the image in a window to see the save in progress. Is this a new way of doing things, or is my PS broken?

I am using a Mac Studio M2 Max 64Gb OS Ventura 13.5.

Many thanks,

Jamie

It sounds like you have "save in background" checked in Preferences. Uncheck it to get the save window.

I just want to make it clear to both @Jamie Farquharson and @TheLuminous8623 that in reality, you actually never lost your save progress indicator, and you are possibly making things more difficult by going back to the old way. The picture below helps explain these points:

The big problem with the old, 20th-century-style Save progress bar was that it blocked you from doing anything else with Photoshop as long as it was saving. After using other, more modern apps that could save in the background, I found the old, modal Photoshop save progress bar to be an obstacle to full productivity, especially when saving very large files.

When Photoshop was finally upgraded to allow background saving, this led to two useful improvements. First, you can now keep working while Photoshop saves a document, so if you’re on a roll creatively, your flow will no longer be interrupted by having to stop everything until a long save finishes. The second improvement is that not only did you not lose the visible save progress, you now have two places to see it, not just one! When saving in the background, save progress is now visible both in the document tab at the top, and also in the traditional document status bar at the bottom. Both save progress indicators are readily visible yet out of your way, no longer blocking you from continuing to work. For many, Save in Background is clearly better and more productive.

Hi. So as for me - I was referring to the second pic in your attachment. The small blue save bar had disappeared from my view.

As I said it has now reappeared after I toggled the background save on and off a couple of times .

I think all the bugs I am having in Photoshop are going to require me to uninstall and reinstall fully. Possible even using the cleaner tool.

I have already deleted my prefs a few times.

I am a power user. Have been using pshop for 30 + years. It's incredibly buggy in conjunction with my huion tablet and the TourBox elite plus for editing., but as I said - it may just be time for a clean install.

Thanks for the tip.

This was driving me crazy - but I finally tried just toggling the "Save in background' on amd off and then on again in Preferences under File handling - and my save progress is now showing again. odd bug. hope this works for you.
