I'm on MAc and the latest version of Photoshop and Ilustrator. The job gave me . AI that open in color on Illustrator but when I import them into photoshop, they open in black and white. I don't know why.

Double check the colour mode when placing/rasterizing in the generic PDF settings dialog.

My 2nd concern is that I took one of these simple PDFs, a black graphic on a transparent background from a . AI that I didn't create, given by work. It opens as a Smart Object in Photoshop. Ok but when I click on it to change the color or when I do

LAYER/DYNAMIC OBEJTS/EDIT CONTENT, it opens as a PDF in Mac Preview and not as a . PSB on Photoshop.

Smart objects from external files retain their original file format, that's by design.

The only time that you have a PSB when editing the smart object is when;

1) A PSB source file was used to create the smart object, for example, using the place embedded command with a .PSB file

2) A native Photoshop layer is converted to a smart object, where Adobe use PSB as the native internal container format

The reason that the PDF smart object opens into Apple Preview is that is the default program associated with that file extension on your system, it could be Adobe Acrobat Reader/Pro or another app depending on your file type associations.

Where did the image originate from?
What file format?

What mode when open in Photoshop?

What does it look like when opened in other image app like Mac Photos?

Hi Trevor,

the image comes from my work (new work) so I do not dare asking about the document. I have the same issues with all the documents my work gave me, even from a PDF I took from what looks like a Powerpoint presentation. So I think it may come from the setting of my photoshop and illustrator (I just downlaoded them from Adobe). All images, wether they are jpg, pdf, tiff or ai saved in PDF looks like thay are only in grey levels. When I open this pdf from powerpoint presenation, the elements I can see in colours in Apercu on Mac are for one second in colors in Photoshop then change quickly into geys levels. I have the same issue when I do a dynamic objetc from a flat black illustration PDF that I saved in Tiff to see if any change. I can't get it in any colours. But I have no pb creating on my photoshop document some colourfull illustration and print them in colours. The isseu arrive only with imported documents I did not create. Let me know if you have more questions.
