open as camera raw a jpg denies open that jpg as it originally was thereafter

Hi,

thought I would use camera Raw to remove blue influence of cloth on black parts of a model Lanc, as done a few weeks ago successfully. I mask the lower portions, find that the Colour mixer blue slider is denied me, (very annoyed such is denied to users after masking...why ?) yet seem to remember using it a few weeks ago, so use saturation with hue already on blue, perhaps it knows my intention ?

drag fully left, blue goes, open the file into Pshop, realise I hadnt appled clarity, reopen it in ACR, but mask is gone, it doesnt remember mask, but prop tips have lost their yellow now. 

Need to start all over again. 

Cancel and open the original jpg, but it also is less blue  to the areas and with grey prop tips. OH NO !!!!

Unable now to access the original jpg. there is no xmp file visible in folder to delete. to stop ACR denying me my prop tips.
yet it forgets the masks,
it is remewmbering the changes.

so what does one do to get back to the  ORIGINAL jpg. ?

What is going on. ?
