open heic in Photoshop CS2

Hi,

I downloaded the HEIC and HEVC plugins in order to be able to open the .heic images in Photoshop (as suggested by Adobe) and manipulate them in my windows 10 PC. But Photoshop does not open any .heic image! It says: "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".

I don't really mind about the dollar I spent but I do mind about the mockery.

Is there a way to overcome the problem?

Thanks.

Hi @Κωνσταντίνος30015418pcpg. First - there is no "mockery" going on. The simple fact is HEIC/HEVC are not compatible with CS2 even with codecs downloaded. You will need at least CC2015 or newer to open these files or use a third party app to convert to a standard image format for CS2.

You could open the .heic file in Paint or Photos, then save it out as a png or tiff, which will open in Photoshop CS2.

Thanks for the money saving tip. Do you think that the quality will drop after this process?

Not if you save out as a tif or png.

Photoshop CC 2023 can only open .heic files, not save in the .heic format.

Kevin. Thank you very much for your information. I suppose I have to upgrade to a new version of Ps.

Thanks again.

Photoshop CS2, and the Creative Suite 2 in general, is pretty old. 18 years, to be precise. I doubt it supports HEIC files, even with those plugins installed, as it's a file format that has only been adapted by various apps in more recent years.
