Question

Optimizing hardware

Hello everyone,

I’ve been working with Photoshop since my student days. Now, almost 20 years later I still do (in combination with Lightroom) and would like to buy a new workstation, optimized for these 2 apps. I’ve always used Photoshop on an older computer or a laptop and would like to improve my workflow with a more powerful system.

I do not want to make this question go on for to long so I’ll get to the point. I would like to buy this exact system and while it is technically a gaming computer, I ‘m sure it is way more powerful than all my other computers I’ve ever used for Photoshop.

I would like to configure this system with an 9900X, 64GB RAM and an RTX 5060.

Now my question(s):

  • Are these specs wrong or not ideal for Photoshop / Lightroom?
  • Are they maybe too powerful and am I wasting money on specs I won’t ever use?
  • Should I be worried about having a watercooler? Will it leak ever?

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read through my questions.

    RTX 5060 and 64GB RAM is right on the money.

    Now, I’ve always been a little bit wary of AMD, mainly because they’re so tightly focused on the gaming market. That usually means prioritizing singular speed benchmarks over general stability. But I could be wrong. I’d take the trouble to do a little research on 9900X + Photoshop. If everybody seems happy, you’ll be fine.

    The CPU isn’t really critical performance-wise, almost any decent CPU will do. The GPU and I/O bandwidth are much more important. But you don’t want any stability issues.

    I do like the look of it ;-)

    Oh, I had a water-cooled machine once, and it was more noisy than any air-cooled system I’ve had. Never saw the point. But no, it didn’t leak.

    Thanks Fosse for your valueable reply.

    I will compare some CPU’s and maybe an Intel one too? Like you said, I want my system to be stable!

    So you prefer a decent aircooler?
