Question

pan (space bar) doesn't work mid-lasso tool

I start a selection using lasso then hit spacebar to temporarily switch to the hand/pan tool and it doesn't work. It switches to the hand icon but the image doesn't pan. I'm using the latest Photoshop and have updated my graphic card drivers. Scrubby zoom doesn't work mid-lasso either, though it will zoom in and out with a click.

Maybe a related issue is that when panning an image with the crop tool, the image is jerky/glitchy and not smooth. I've never had these issues before. I checked my performance settings and everything seems fine. Suggestions appreciated. Thank you!

We are facing this issue too. Please Adobe do something.

Can't believe that I still have this problem ... Lasso, which is a basic tool from the first Photoshop, still has this bug.

So, still no answer from Adobe? Good thing we pay a few hundred bucks for a bug to be alive (and probably well fed) after 5 years.

I thought it was just me. Good to know other have this problem. Mine is intermittent but I can't work out what triggers it.

This seems like a known bug in recent Photoshop versions. Try enabling Disable Native Canvas under Preferences > Technology Previews and restart. Also, resetting preferences or toggling off Use Graphics Processor under Performance might help.  I’ve shared similar Photoshop tips on my site.

Nope, that didn't help in my case unfortunately.
Maybe worth noting, in those cases that panning does not work, deleting the last point of the lasso tool with backspace also doesn't work.
We got all kinds of different features nobody wanted, but basics tools like this are bugged for weeks, months or even years.

I had the exact same thing happening with the polygon lasso since the last update a few weeks back(?). Did anyone report this to Adobe and/or got some kind of response in the form of a fix/update or anything? I use this tool a lot and using the auto-pan with the cursor at the edge of the image is something I find most unuseful tbh. Like Lorenzo said: 2025 and this is still happening? Sometimes Adobe's highest priority seems to be creating these flaws and bugs in the creative software by changing things that no one asked for and didn't need changing at all.

I just tested the Polygonal Lasso tool (the only one I use) with 22.2 and 26.6 and I can make panning work with both versions, but it's clunky.  I usually — pretty much always — use the Polygonal Lasso tool with the Alt key to link points, and I was sometimes able to pan when doing this, but I'd say it usually didn't work.

However, if I use the PL free hand, and keep the mouse button pressed and hit the space bar, I can pan every time.

If I am using my normal method I have to release the Alt key before hitting the space bar, and then it works.  The selection does not close so long as I keep the mousae button down, and I can switch back to linking points with the Alt key.  This is the same with 22.2

The Poly lasso  has the same issue but it auto pans when you move past the image windows window frame.  I'm more inclined to use the poly lasso myself so the lasso issue in not a big issue for me,  Many Tools auto pan when you reach the edge of the image window frame I think it would be an improvement if the lasso tool followed suite.

Sorry, I mean the polygon lasso tool. I do notice that it auto-pans at the edge of the screen, but I've always used the pan tool for this in the past. Strange it doesn't work now.

To plain lasso tool has a real problem it does not auto pan and will auto close if you let the mouse button up because it does not switch to the hand pan tool with spacebar..
