Question

Photo desaturation when exporting to jpeg

Hello everybody

I am experiencing a color desaturation issue (especially red, yellow and magenta) when exporting the file in jpeg format. The file is exported at the highest quality and without pixel reduction, preserving the workspace (ProPhoto RGB). I also tried converting it to sRGB but it didn't work. I double-checked the color settings and finally even reinstalled Photoshop out of desperation, but none of this worked.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you so much

Are you comparing the original file and the saved version both in Photoshop?

Some other applications mislead as they do not all respect the embedded ICC profile that is so vital to preserving image appearance.

I hope this helps

When you use Export, sRGB is the only option for color space. Using sRGB increases the probability of the image displaying correctly on other people's monitors. If both convert to sRGB and Embed profile are unchecked, the image will display desaturated.

ProPhoto is a color space designed for editing. You should never send ProPhoto files to other people, unless they specifically ask for it. If this is for printing, use Save As / Save a copy, which will preserve the original profile. (as long as ICC profile is checked in the Save dialog). I recommend that you use sRGB or Adobe RGB for printing.

Export is designed for creating files for screen viewing.
