I was so disappointed when I was unable to use the Object Selection Tool. I certainly hope that it proves to be something relatively simple.... .

I am a later-age (almost 70yo...) adopter of things digital... . Photography is my passion.
I purchased Ps CS6 some years ago and have regularly 'attended' YouTube 'University' to develop my editing skills. I am now basically adept in it's use to my current level of skill.

My main camera is the Sony A9 and has been for some time. CS6 will not process A9 RAW images and consequently I have edited only in Jpeg. I now believe that my current skill levels can begin to take advantage of RAW files. As the Object Selection Tool would be of immense value as well, I subscribed to Photoshop 2022 almost 2 days ago.

Having seen on YouTube how the tool works I opened it as soon as the download process was complete. I waited until the Refresh Object Finder 'arrows' were stationary. I immediately found that while I could 'hover and highlight' an object, when I left-clicked - nothing happened. When I moved the cursor away, the highlight shading would then disappear... . This was consistent across several high contrast images whether Jpeg or RAW.

I have tried your recommendation of 'RESET TOOL' and RESET ALL TOOLS' - no change!

'Select Subject' usually produces 'marching ants' somewhere on the image.

I run Windows 10 and have used it for several years on a PC. (Medion - recently upgraded to 16Gb DRAM and 1Tb SSD in addition to the native 2Tb hard drive).

Thank you for your input Ranjisha. I've had an offer of further assistance in the event that your suggested solution was ineffective. It centers on 'Preferences'... .

Sorry about the trouble experienced.

Would you mind sharing which versions of windows and Photoshop you're on? Are you able to use other tools for the selection of the object? 

 

Please try to reset the tools followed by Photoshop preferences. 
To reset all the tools at once, right-click on the icon of whatever tool is currently selected in the Tool Options, select “Reset All Tools,” and then click “OK.” When you use the Reset All Tools option, this will also reset all the tool selections in the Tools bar to their defaults.
