Photoshop 2023 and 2024 Crashing when using brush tool on Mac

Question

Hey there, So I have an illustration I have been working on, on photoshop. I had no problems when beginning the illustration, but now, when I use the brush tool, photoshop immediately crashes. I have reset preferences and have had no changes.

Note: This does not repeat if I use different tools, only the brush tool. It also does not happen on other photoshop files. I currently use Photoshop 2023, but attempted the same thing on 2024 with no changes.

I have an M1 Max Mac with 64gb ram and 2tb harddrive, so it can't be a computer performance issue.

Hey, @MrblutzIII. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out. Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here.

I couldn't find crash reports submitted with the account you've signed in to the community with. If you see a crash dialogue, submit it with your Adobe ID. Check here for more steps: https://adobe.ly/3Wpjx0B;

Before troubleshooting, update Photoshop to the latest version (v25.7) via the Creative Cloud desktop app & check if the issue exists. Also, does the problem exist if you use Photoshop (beta) v25.9? Where is the original document stored? On the internal or external drive?
