Photoshop 2026 Unusable on MacPro with OSX Tahoe

The Radeon family has a known bug with ACR, where the display is distorted or black. Its started showing up two OS versions ago and I still see it now and then with Tahoe. I suspect its a memory issue. His machine has a much beefier card than the one I'm using. I haven't seen any shutdowns on any of my Macs in years.

macOS Tahoe 26.1 will have whatever the latest video drivers are, AMD doesn't publish a separate driver download like on Windows. His configuration (Xeon CPU, 48GB RAM, SSD storage, Radeon 580X/8GB) would be a pretty decent Windows machine I'd think. Even with Apple Silicon, those are good-performing computers.

When I worked for Apple, we would see power supply problems and that was the most common cause of sudden shutdowns.

I would immediately suspect the AMD Radeon GPU. I know you can't get a standalone new driver for it, but is there a chance there is a MacOS update you haven't run?

A new Photoshop version may have new graphics code to take advantage of recent GPU developments. That's why a GPU that used to work may cause problems in a new version.

EtreCheck is frequently recommended on the Apple user forums for gathering system information. Its free and will show a report in depth about your computer.

You say your computer is at an office, are you using security software? Cloud storage? Anything unusual such as an MDM or AD binding?

Looks ok from here. I'm running PSD 27 on Tahoe, Intel MacBook Pro spec'd much lower, without problems. There must be something else going on with your system. If you want to post an EtreCheck Pro report then we can see alot mor  e     info about your system.

Typically a shutdown is hardware issues, a bad power supply or overheating. Software is unlikely to cause this although a corrupted video driver could possibly do so.

No worries thank for sending. You PS setup looks fine no issues there. Did you install Photoshop after you upgraded the OS or before?

@Passionate_fun9766 can you supply the system info report from Photoshop?

@Passionate_fun9766 Photoshop cannot cause a kernel panic like this. Go to Photoshop Help Menu/System Info and copy/paste the results here. First guess is lack of RAM or HD space causing the Mac OS to cause the panic. 

Do you get error messages? There are some known issues with crummy Electron apps which you may also have, those are slowly being updated AFAIK.
