Photoshop 2026 (v 27.0.0) has started crashing

The program has been working fine for a few months but has suddenly started crashing (momentary freezes, then closes) for no apparent reason.  I have tried all the fixes (each in turn) that I have found on line, but to no avail:

  • Turning off all programs while PS in use
  • Checking no background Adobe processes running
  • Resetting preferences
  • Updating graphics car driver
  • Unchecking multithreaded compositing & GPU compositing
  • Switching off ‘Use graphics processor’
  • Adjusting memory usage - set at 70% (17185 MB available to PS)
  • Clearing cache
  • Checking sufficient scratch disk space
  • Disabling 3rd party add-ons

I have a reasonable PC (AMD Ryzen 5 7600 6-Core Processor (3.80 GHz), 32 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti (8 GB RAM), 2.3 TB of free space on 4.5 TB hard drive, Windows 11 Home v25H2 - 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor).  I do not have Adobe Creative Cloud installed, and no auto cloud backup being used.  The History States, Cache Levels and Cache Tile Size are all at the defaults (50; 4; and 1028K).

I’m at a loss on how to solve - any suggestions, please?

Was there a Windows update around the time the problem started?

Do you have any third party plugins installed?
