Photoshop 2026 will not open jpeg files

Photoshop 2026 will not open any JPEG files. I receive a message that says “Could not open “file name” because the file was not found.” Yes, the files are there and are uncorrupted– Preview and other other apps have no problem with the JPEGs. It does not matter if the files are local, on a drive, or wherever. Also, photoshop has no issue opening PNGs, PSDs, or really any other normals file formats.

I recently updated, reinstalled, restarted, and deleted photoshop 2025 from my machine to try to remedy the problem. I’m working on an iMac 2020 with Sequoia 15.7.3

As a work around, I’ve been opening the JPGs in Preview and copying and pasting them into a Photoshop file, but I’d prefer a real fix over this method.

Hey, @beezelbarry. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out. Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > Upload and attach here.

Does this happen with a specific set of images? Are you opening JPEG images from the Recent section in Photoshop?

    If not, try this:

1 - Go to Photoshop > Settings > Camera Raw Settings > File handling.

2 - Test both modes between 'Disable JPEG and HEIC Support' & 'Automatically Open All supported JPEG & HEICs with settings.

3 - Restart after each change.

Let me know if the issue exists.

    Thanks!
