Question

Photoshop 2026 won't open cloud documents

Hi,

recently, my Photoshop was updated to version 2026 and now I can't open any of the files I had saved in my cloud, and with every attempt to do so, I get this error message: "Couldn't open "file.psdc" because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."

As you can imagine, this can be very frustrating, given that most of my work is saved as .psdc documents on the cloud. I use Windows 10 and I am also getting error 506 when trying to update Creative Cloud.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

A quick google suggests that error 506 is a permissions issue in Windows.

An update requires temporary storage for download and extracting. If the temp directory is denied, the update cannot proceed. This might also explain why documents don't download.

As a first attempt, try to right-click the app's start icon and "run as administrator". You can do this for both CC and Photoshop. Normally it's only necessary to do this once.

You can also go into your Windows user account and check permissions, but off the top of my head I don't know specifically which folders to look at.
