Photoshop 27.0 breaks fonts and corrupts PSD files beyond recovery

I updated Photoshop today to the latest v27.0. Everything went smoothly and I started working on an existing file, created yesterday, with v26.11.

I closed the file and opened it again a few hours later. Photoshop asked me to update the file, which was strange. This usually happens when I move my file to another computer and it needs to "update" the fonts. I hit Update and all the fonts were broken - replaced by other random fonts. And the names of the fonts did not correspond to the actual fonts - it was a mess.

Unfortunately, opening the same file in Photoshop v26.11 did not help, the file was corrupted beyond recovery - the same strange font behavior was happening. I ended up creating everything from scratch on a second computer, using Photoshop 26.11. I took this file back to the original computer and it works fine in the old v26.11.

So, the conclusion is that v27.0 breaks fonts and corrupts files without the possibility of recovery.

I attached the broken file, if anyone wants to test it.

Hey, @Alexandru329925193w3u, @fleta416, @gareth32484461eqqf, and @Philippe5EA0. Thanks for your reports and +1 comments.

With the attached video and the PSDs, the issue didn't appear as described. Could you help us by providing detailed video, or a numbered list of steps using preferably, Adobe Fonts with the names of the font families?

@D Fosse - requesting your help to verify this further.

Thanks!

I have many fonts installed over the years. Also, I've been a Photoshop user since v7.0 and have never experienced a file corrupted on open, without doing anything to it. So I uninstalled v27 altogether and won't reinstall it anytime soon.

Adobe has an army of programmers and I believe what I wrote is enough to start investigating it, and also other users reported the same issue.

So I expect Adobe to investigate and fix this. I can't assist any further as I will refrain from installing v27 until I see something about this in the changelog.

Thanks!

I also had some kind of issue with fonts on a PSD file. in 27.0

It looked like Photoshop was mixing up the font layers, with some I tried to hide that didn't hide, or the reverse, somehow the text didn't show up even though the layer was supposed to be visible. Some weird black lines noise artifact also appeared all over the workspace too. It's maybe linked to some specific fonts, I don't know. When save and re-opened, it was still there.

I managed to fix it somehow after fiddling with the fonts and layers and then I dropped PS 27 and went back to a previous version.

Thank you for confirming the issue, this way it will get more spotlight and the Adobe team will take notice.

Hi, thanks for reaching out! I was able to open the file you attached, replace the fonts (I didn't have the fonts you used installed on my computer), save the file, and then reopen it without any issues.

The saved file worked fine with the previous version as well. Could you tell us where you installed the fonts that you used in the file from?

Thanks,
Nikunj

Thank you for taking the time to check. I have many fonts from my clients, I don't recall each font where it came from. But can you send me your file to try and open it on my PS 27.0 and see how it behaves?

Hi @Alexandru329925193w3u

I just opened your file on my system and resaved it. Interestingly, it didn’t prompt me to update any fonts. I’ve resaved it and added it to your original post as “Broken file New.” Please check and let me know.
