Photoshop 27.10 EPS issue – embedded CMYK profile appears to be ignored

I would like to add another production example of this issue.

We work with large numbers of Photoshop EPS files in a professional retouching and colour-managed production workflow. Since using Photoshop 27.10, I receive the following warning when opening these files:

“This document contains Adobe Photoshop data which appears to be damaged. Continue and ignore the Photoshop data?”

The files continue to open after clicking OK and the image data appears visually intact. However, I have noticed an additional problem which may be important for colour-managed workflows.

The affected EPS files open in Photoshop 27.10 as Untagged CMYK.

Our production EPS files normally contain an embedded CMYK ICC profile, so Photoshop appears to be failing to read or retain this information when the warning occurs.

Because these are production files used for colour-critical retouching, losing the embedded CMYK profile is potentially more serious than the warning message itself.

I have therefore reverted to an earlier Photoshop version for this work.

I can provide a sample EPS if it would help Adobe reproduce or investigate the ICC profile behaviour.

The .eps format does not natively support icc profiles and color management.

It is possible to include the profile when saving from Photoshop, so that Photoshop will reopen the file with the profile, but this is not a standard file format function, and other applications may ignore it.

The general advice if you need a color managed workflow is to use PDF.

Thanks for the update. It would be worth testing this in Photoshop 27.11 to confirm whether the fix also resolves the missing embedded CMYK profile, not just the damaged Photoshop data warning.

If the files still open as Untagged CMYK, I’d recommend sharing a sample EPS with Adobe so they can compare how the embedded profile is handled in 27.10 versus 27.11. Until the profile is confirmed to be preserved correctly, continuing with the earlier working version seems like the safer option for a colour-critical production workflow.

Please let us know whether the update resolves both issues.
