Question

PHOTOSHOP BMP Saving extra colors now with recent update, how to remove?

Hello,

I'm making a BMP in index mode using the color table and can only have 6 boxes of color at most when I save the BMP.

In the past I could open the saved BMP again and the table would appear the same with no more than the 6 colors showing in the color table. Recently my PSD updated and now when I reopen the BMP my color table adds in all the remainding colors I had empty. Anyone know how to stop this from happening? 1st image is what the original file looks like, the second is what it's saving out now.

Bitmap can mean two different things, so the terminology is a bit confusing.

Sometimes it just means a pixel-based raster image. In Photoshop it specifically means a 1-bit image.

BMP is a Microsoft file type, which can store 16.7 million colors: https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/file-types/image/raster/bmp-file.html

"6 different colors" is not a bitmap. Bitmap files are black and white.

Because you can't do color, my example is black and white, but i usually have up to 6 different colors.

Hi @raecantu why dont you simply use Bitmap mode to create your BMP instead of manually with an Index color table?
