photoshop cannot open file due to programme error

Mac: photoshop cannot open file due to programme error.

This has only happened today since OS27.0.1 update, and occurs with TIFF, JPEG & PSD

Even newly created ones opened and re-saved with Capture One!

    OK quick update - back working…

    Uninstalled all versions of PS and Bridge and didn't keep any preferences (an nuclear option & PIA)

    Reinstalled PS 2026 PS Beta and Bridge 2026.

    When Bridge set to open using PS beta got the same “couldn't open” message 

    Set Bridge to open with PS release version > restarted and this seems to be working!

    Will report if it reverts!

    Now to install metadata templates actions brushes etc etc!

    Thanks for reaching out. Since you mentioned that the issue started after an OS update, it could be related to Photoshop not having the necessary disk access permissions. Please follow the steps shared in this article to check and update the required permissions:   https://helpx.adobe.com/in/photoshop/desktop/troubleshoot/file-format-issues/resolve-program-error-while-saving-files.html#:~:text=On%20macOS%2C%20Photoshop%20may%20lack%20the%20necessary%20disk%20access%20permissions%20to%20save%20files%20to%20certain%20locations

     

    Let us know how it goes after trying these steps.

    Hi Srishti,

    Very bizarre behaviour…

    Followed the checking the disc permissions yesterday and again today - no change.

    Attempted to follow the path Applications/Adobe Photoshop [Version]/Adobe Photoshop [Version].app/Contents/Required/UXP/   This appears to be incorrect (on my system) but found and replaced com.adobe.unifiedpanel. which regenerated once PS restarted - no change.

     

    This morning I went to folder in Bridge and tried one image it opened in PS beta then I closed it and and tried a Tools > Photoshop > Batch >(action) on this one image and it worked correctly.

    Then I selected multiple images and tried again BUT got the cannot open file message for all selected.

    Then I tried opening the first image ( which previously opened and previously worked in batch) and it would no longer open.

    Yesterday I uninstalled and reinstalled BS beta.

    So… just now I quit everything restarted Bridge 16.0.7.36 set it to open images using PS 27.10.0 BUT bridge continues to open with PS beta.

    FYI I belong to Bridge prerelease programme (effectively dead) but Bridge is the current release version, and also belong to ACR prerelease programme though currently using the release version as most up to date!

    Weird!   Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

    Should have added using Photoshop Beta 27.12 and 27.10 release (both the same issue)
