Photoshop CC 20.0.5 Crashing Entire OSX Mojave 10.14.6

Hi,

Like the title says, my PS is crashing my entire computer over and over and I need some help. I've been using PS on this iMac for a month or so with no problems, and now suddenly it won't stay open for more than a couple of minutes maximum. I've uninstalled and reinstalled PS / uninstalled and reinstalled my entire CC desktop app and my entire library of CC apps / and I just reinstalled my entire Mojave OS. So, I'm now at the latest version of Mojave, the latest version of PS, and still running into the same crash.

Worse, since it's crashing my entire OS, it's not saving any crash logs. It's totally random too - there's no specific tool or event that I'm in the middle of that causes a crash. I've even been in the middle of just resizing my PS window and it crashes. The only lead I have is that I think it's related to saving or background saving - I think it's the background saving, specifically (read below). If I open a file that's saved already, I get a pretty random amount of time with it (but no more than a couple of moments) before it randomly crashes. If I create a totally new file it hasn't crashed until after I save the file somewhere. Then, again after a random interval, it crashes.

I've already tried some of the GPU quick fixes, like disabling my GPU usage in PS Prefs and allowing PS to take control of my computer in my System Prefs. No luck. I just tried to turn off Save In Background in my PS Prefs and it immediately crashed after I hit "OK" in my Prefs window. Now, PS will crash my OS immediately when I try to open it.

So that's where I'm at right now - hope someone can help, because I have work to do!

Thanks all for the help - it seems like this was a hardware issue, unfortunately. For the record, I'm using:

Mojave 10.14.6

Photoshop 20.0.5

I just spent a couple of hours with Apple Support engineers, who were pretty stumped. Finally came to the conclusion that I had to bring my computer in to a store so they could really dig in. On a whim (feeling like I'd exhausted all my options), I yanked some of the RAM, and sure enough, I can't reproduce the issue now. Seems like two of my 8GB sticks are bad. No idea how that happens, but that's not really a topic for this forum I think. Anyway, all said and done, I'm out $80 and about 12 very frustrating hours.

Go to Help > System Info in Photoshop, copy and paste the results in your reply. While it's wordy, it has information about your system and drivers and goes far in helping us hone in on the problem.

Hi Robert,

Instead of saying "latest", please give us the numbers.

For the OS, go to Apple > About This Mac

For Photoshop, go to Photoshop CC > About Photoshop CC...

Worse, since it's crashing my entire OS

As akashs99146366 explained the impression is misleading and it is not Photoshop that causes the problems, it may just be the only piece of software you use that makes the performance-related demands necessary to reveal the problem of another component.

If I remember previous similar threads correctly that may even be the CPU, RAM etc. so you may be in for some lengthy and uncomfortable troubleshooting/diagnostics.

Hi Robertd,

That isn't a great user experience as your computer is crashing while using Photoshop, we're sorry to hear about this. Which version of Photoshop are you using?

Photoshop can never crash your computer as it is just a software, there must be an issue with any of the hardware, drivers, memory devices that's causing the issue. Please go through the steps mentioned in this article Troubleshoot Mac OS 10.x system errors, freezes | Adobe software  and let us know if that helps.

Thanks,

Akash

I've had a slightly different problem, but one that hasn't been solved. Here's the thread so far with all the info:

Was hoping an employee could look it over and provide an answer.

Thank you.

First thing to do when Photoshop suddenly stops working correctly is to check all you Photoshop settings and reset all tools. If that does not fix your problems reset your Photoshop Preferences The may have become corrupt.  Anything can happen when your Photoshop preferences become corrupt.

What do you mean by " allowing PS to take control of my computer in my System Prefs" Do you mean you reset your Preferences? How would Photoshop take control your computer its not an Operating System. Apple would not allow that.

Thanks for the reply @JJMack - I uninstalled PS and removed all preferences, then reinstalled. As before, creating a new file didn't crash for a couple of minutes, so I saved a test file to my desktop. The save function finished, but 30-ish seconds later the whole computer crashed.

One of the common Mojave trouble-shooting answers I ran into said to "Allow PS to control accessibility features". I don't think this has anything to do with my issue, but I set up my User Accessibility settings in my system prefs to allow PS computer control. Here's a guide that I quickly google-searched:
