Photoshop CC 2017 Unusable slow

I upgraded my Photoshop to CC 2017 today and since the upgrade it has been very very slow. When I click on File menu the dropdown menu appears like after 3-4 seconds. When I delete layer it take about 10 second. Zoom in and out are terribly slow. I work on Photoshop everyday hope to get the problem resolve as soon as possible.

Is there a way to downgrade to earlier version?

My computer details:

Windows 10 Pro

Processor: Intel i7-5960X

RAM: 32 GB

Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti

SSD

If you are using a computer with an Nvidia card and in addition Intel graphics on a chip be sure to set the NVIDiA performance card as the one for Photoshop to uses.

In Windows go to Control Panel and open the NVIDIA control panel

Under 3d settings make sure Photoshop 2017 is selected if it is not there add it.

Make sure all the settings use the NVidia GPU. In the case of this old machine I took these captures from there is only one GPU, but yours may be different. You can also often turn of the Intel Graphics off through the Bios.

I have the same issue with type tool. Some font are working normal for example: Adobe Caslon. When I use some other fonts like Futura from TypeKit or Museo Sans and most fonts from TypeKit or default, making the type tool unusable. Like choking the photoshop. Its hard to select some phrases, change formatting and other stuff. After choose some options, every changes take about couple of seconds, sometimes wheel is spinning...

I'm working on Mac Pro Tower 2012. 6 cores 3,33ghz, 48GB RAM, ATI Radeon 5770. SSD drive for system, for scratch disk and other ssd for storage. OS X Yosemite.

Of course before CC 2017 everything was working fine.

I have made such as things as:

1. Disable Font Preview - Nothing change
2. Reset tools - Nothing change
3. Check Book fonts and erase fonts with warnings - Nothing change
4. Reset Photoshop settings - Nothing change
5. Disable GPU - Nothing change
6. Clear cache - nothing change

I ran the update this morning and, thus far, Photoshop is running much faster. I have not enabled font preview as yet though so I don't know if it is still an issue. When I had disabled font preview, it seemed to alleviate my issues as far as the spinning wheel of death when doing simple tasks (ie. scrolling) although Photoshop CC2017 was still running slow as far as opening, closing, saving, etc... Much improved after the update. Thanks! Sorry I can't offer more technical input.

After updating to CC 2017.0.1 I realized that Myriad Pro font is working fast, but Arial is laging my computer to 90% usage of CPU.

Myriad is Open Type Font,

Arial is True Type Font.

OTF = fast

TTF = unusable slow

I recorded video for you, where you can see issue on different font types. You can see how slow CC 2017 is, and understand my frustration.

I am using i5, 12GB DDR3, nVidia 920M 4GB DDR3

Jacek,

So is the application only slow when you're using TTF fonts (Arial) and does it perform as expected if you're using OTF fonts (in your case Myriad)?

Just trying to narrow our focus here.

Thanks,Adam

For those of us that did an uninstall of PS 2017 and went back to PS 2015, do we simply follow the update link in the PS 2015 Help menu?

Hello I think you should find an update on offer in the desktop app

If you click on update a dialog should appear as CC2017 is a completely new application and not just an update for the CC2015 folder. It's not a bad idea to retain CC2015.5 and if you want to do that click the 'advanced options'

Uncheck the box 'Remove old versions' and that will allow you to keep CC2015.5 and CC2017.1

These graphics are from when I updated to CC2017 a few months ago and so the updates to Illustrator , InDesign etc will not show up.

Early 2009 Mac Pro upgraded to 3.46, 6 core, 32MB RAM - I kept 2015.5 when I added 2017 back in yesterday so that I could test files back and forth. I am using the 2017 default settings to get an accurate comparison. No more opening file lag, but no speed difference on most tasks. Slight lag on type tool functions, but had that on 2015. Use Suitcase Fusion (latest version) for type management.

I have just installed the latest update. Version reported when I open PS is:

2017.0.1 20161130.r.29 2016/11/30:23:00:00 CL 1099099  x64

Initial impression is that it is now working much faster and at least I can open files without having to go and make a cup of tea, so something has changed for the better.

Looks like we're getting somewhere. I don't understand why the version no. is not the same as others here, but maybe that's a PC/MAC thing?

Mine is the same as yours on Windows 10

Adobe Photoshop Version: 2017.0.1 20161130.r.29 2016/11/30:23:00:00 CL 1099099  x64

I never had much of a speed issue, but to me it seems a little more fluid than before. Let's hope other people have a similar experience to you Morkie.

I too just installed the new version. My first impressions are good. I can open the program, and create a new document without the long wait. So far so good. I'm hopeful that the rest of my evaluation will prove good too.

Thank you.

To all:

Guess you haven't gotten the notice of the Photoshop 2017 update.

On a Mac - check and see if you have version 18.0.1, created 12/13 at 0723 EST. On MY Mac, about 80% faster for the first opening.

I haven't inspected the full package for date comparison with backup, but things are running so much faster.

Last install was 18.0.0, 11/03 - reading 1.94 GB in size. The 18.0.1 shows same size. The presets show modification 0724 EST., 12/13.

Do Adobe expect us to carry on paying our CC plans when the software isn't fit for purpose?

Why is Adobe deleting comments?

Why do you think they are Jacek? We receive postings to the forum not just here, but are also sent emails for the threads we are involved with. I just checked my list and your post this morning is the only one sent by you in recent days. Even when someone posts to the forum and deletes it we receive an email as that cannot be undone.

If your posts don't contain abuse or bad language and are not offensive in some way, you can say just about anything you want.

I don't know of any censorship policy at Adobe as they know it would destroy the credibility of their flagship source of information and technical help to their customers.

I am not, so far I have just been setting up with defaults. The most interesting change I've made is using an unattended config to have Windows set the Users directory on a separate hard drive from the install drive. I also have duel network cards (gigabit lan as well as Wireless AC) but I'm only using the gigabit LAN at the moment.

Once I have determined all of the installs are stable and get my benchmarks from there I may make other alterations (or I may not if everything is running satisfactorily)
