Photoshop CC 2017 Unusable slow

I upgraded my Photoshop to CC 2017 today and since the upgrade it has been very very slow. When I click on File menu the dropdown menu appears like after 3-4 seconds. When I delete layer it take about 10 second. Zoom in and out are terribly slow. I work on Photoshop everyday hope to get the problem resolve as soon as possible.

Is there a way to downgrade to earlier version?

My computer details:

Windows 10 Pro

Processor: Intel i7-5960X

RAM: 32 GB

Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti

SSD

I'd really like to get this issue resolved asap, so if anyone would be willing to work directly with me on it, please contact me directly at:  first name dot last name at adobe dot com

I'm specifically looking for someone who is seeing all aspects of Photoshop run slow, and preferably someone in the CA bay area that I could visit in-person (anywhere west of the rockies would work too).

Thanks,

Adam

Sorry Adam I'm far away in the UK, happy to email if it's any help.

1 machine here glitching but manageable and 1 machine (lower spec) running fine and smooth.

I don't know if this relates to the main topic but I am having brush lagging issue. To further breakdown the problem ; when trying to paint with a mouse, doesn't matter what dpi or spacing I use mouse cursor is always ahead of the paint stroke. They are not acting together so you end up seeing a race between cursor and the stroke. What might be the cause of it ? Thanks.

In my case, when I try to save a new photoshop image, regardless of format, I get the dreaded spinning wheel.  I end up having to 'force quit' the program and of course, lose any work I had done to the image - not happy with this glitch what-so-ever, as any of you might imagine.  Yes - Adobe needs to fix PS 2017 bugs straight away - I plan on editing a bunch of family images to print for Christmas gifts, etc.....This couldn't be a worse time for a new version to come out "buggy".

Hi Mary,

Install the previous version of Photoshop so that you can get your Christmas images completed. Your CC2017 won't be removed but the two version will exist happily side by side.

What version of OSX are you using? One thing you could try is creating a completely new account on your computer. I don't mean a new Adobe login but a new user account on your machine. Make the account an administrator and then logout of your existing account and log into the new account. You will still have access to Photoshop but much of the install settings will be recreated the first time you open it for the new account. In preferences under plugins make sure that you uncheck the option for extensions to contact the internet as that can be problematic. Also try disabling the new start screen. Make sure you are not using network shares and at least initially don't have lots of other programs running in the background. Sometimes disabling font preview will also help-it's a question of eliminating things. Now exit Photoshop and restart.

Ok, that's a bit phreaky but here's where the thread is currently at.

There are several types of user on here with a mixture of problems, some of which might not relate to the OP.

If you're busy like me and are in the middle of a project then go back to the previous version and get some work done

If your machine is maxing out on disk activity, CPU, memory just go back to the previous version.  It's a no-brainer.

If you have the problem described by the OP where Photoshop is going glitchy or slow, particularly when opening the top menus then you can solve the problem if you want to by disabling panels in Photoshop and not opening any third-party or internet enabled panels while using Photoshop or the problem will appear as soon as you do.

I can completely stop the OP problem here by killing any CEPHtmlEngine processes and disabling panels and not opening them. Check task manager/monitor to see them or not.

IMO it's not really worth the bother because I do use third-party panels so unless you want to go and tweak services/processes on your machine just go back to the previous version.

As for the AI/Photoshop memory leak type problem, I have found that a lot of network activity happened and that might be to the new "sync" functions but after a long while of having both apps open and not the CC app. I don't have the problem anymore.  If your machine can't take all the resource usage maybe better to once again go back to the previous version.

I think that PS is overloaded by useless stuff like Stock Photos, Mockups, 3D which actually won't work. Why? Because if someone needs Stock photos or Mockups, goes to iStock or Shutterstock and download it. If someone needs 3D , then runs 3D software. Stop making PS software for everything...

You added a lot of new features draining our CPUs and Internet connections on every start-up of PS and forgot to work on most important things like TYPE TOOL. I did everything you wrote in this topic and nothing was helpfull for me. All of new features are SLOW. Selecting TEXT in text area is lagging my computer. Running AI next to PS with no documents opened is making my PC working on 99%.

Type tool worked fine since 80's and then Adobe had an idea to implement font previews. And?.... Type tool became slow even if font preview option is turned off. Suspicious..

Last good working version was CS5 or CS6. Then you started to overload software with a lot of useless features, publishing it with underdeveloped code - THAT IS AN SOLUTION OF OUR ISSUES.

If the application was free, I would not say a word about Adobe's decissions. But if I pay for professional tool I EXPECT professional tool. And tips like "downgrade to previous versions or turn off some features" are silly.

Are Adobe developers working on update fixing the problem or just read forum posts trying to persuade users to disable the new features, downgrade software or trying to tell that our hardware is reason of slow CC apps, not their crappy, not optimized code which is not able to use hardware correctly?

When I create new software I test it on many devices before publishing it. How is it possible that Adobe hasn't known issues before publishing CC2017 if there is so many users reporting serious problems with Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom... How, lol? Or maybe it was:

- Sir, our products are working slow on some computers. What should We do?

- Mehh... publish CC 2017 in 2016, they will buy it because they have subscriptions... We will fix it by update later. Publish it, time, time, money, money!!!11oneone ADD MORE 3D FEATURES TO PHOTO APP, IT WILL WORK EVEN FASTER!!! ADD INTERNET FEATURES AS STOCK OR MOCKUPS!!!! IT WILL BE PERFECT!!! Doh...

CC is our work tool... How long have we wait for stable, fast version of CURRENT software?... It's almost December here...

Simple calculation:

Adobe has around 5 million Creative Cloud subscribers almost all of whom will have Photoshop. Less than 50 people have posted in this thread that's 1/1000 th of 1% of the userbase. Alright it's a silly calculation as most end users don't come here until something is wrong, but it strongly indicates the majority of customers are happy with the products. Continually trashing the software like this is in the end counter productive.

Jacek you do as a subscriber have access to Adobe Technical support and they can remote desktop to your computer-have you tried that?

Terri,

So you mean that Adobe developers aren't working on fixing this problem at this moment, because we are only 1% of users, yes? ;>

My PC is fine, I tried to install it on 2 machines, different operating systems, both clean, viruses-free. CC 2015 works fine   So I don't think that technical support may help me somehow.

I really hate some of the updates to Adobe CC. Just to create a new document, the software now has to go to the internet to get all of the new document templates. What used to take less than a second now takes nearly a minute. And this is one only one example. It shouldn't be necessary for the software to access the internet for every little simple action, and it shouldn't require 60 to 180 seconds every time you do. This is not an improvement when it severely slows down my work flow and causes additional frustration.

I try to avoid anything Cloud related that Adobe is trying to get us to use and 2017 is probably the worst release in recent Adobe memory. Go back to at least PS 2015. New document window is exactly the way it should be.

I have the same problems here with the latest versions of Photoshop and Illustrator.
I have tried all the suggestions in the thread but no results.

Sadly there won't be a "solution" by performing any of the actions described in this list unless the poster has another problem which could be solved, like not enough space on their system drive.

The solution to the problem which the thread is actually about requires Adobe to release a new version of the CC software that isn't broken.  Which we'll find in our CC app as an update.

It's usually a good idea to clean up our filesystem but if you want to run the Adobe apps then install the old 2015 version.

I don't know about anyone else but during the few seconds that I can use the 2017 versions I saw a few things I didn't like (new File dialogue) and I didn't see anything new that I did like so don't ruin your days trying to get this soft working.  Install the older version and get some work done.

By 2018 this 2017 version will probably be working and there'll be a new 2019 version or whatever for you to pay money to bug-test for Adobe if you wish

Don't waste time on this, it's an empty vessel.

Any solution yet? I was able to downgrade and run 2015 version. Whenever I open 2017 it works fine for few minutes then it starts to freeze and slow down the computer. Here's screenshot of my Task Manager.

Just An idea which works for me....

I don't know will it work for you guys or not.

Goto

Edit>Preferences>Performances and then set the Let Photoshop Use to 50% usage or to be precise 3536 mb

similarly Goto

Edit>Preferences>3D and then set the Let Photoshop Use to let's say 41%

and then restart the photoshop....

I hope it will resolve the lagging issue for you guys as it solved mine....

DIdnt work for me.  I tried but thanks for the tip.

It is EXCRUCIATINGLY slow to try to navigate!  But as soon as you switch to another program, like a web browser all latency disappears and your computer runs normal again.

Well this has been fun. Upon uninstalling PS CC and Lightroom, then running CC Cleaner, I rebooted and re-installed. Upon reinstall at one reboot I got the "S.M.A.R.T. Status Bad , Backup and Replace" message which I have learned means that my HDD (Storage) has failed.

I quit.  I blame Adobe.  I have never had problems with my 2 year old PC until installing this POS software.  NOw I can only hope that Carbonite has done its job.

Sorry to hear about your drive failure. It is no consolation but  you have just been very unlucky and CC probably did not cause the failure. If a hard disk could be destroyed just by working hard the minimum time before failure, MTF, would be measure in tens of hours rather than hundreds of thousands. Disk Defragmenters and renderers are far more demanding with disk activity at 100% for hours sometimes.

SMART monitors far more than just the platters that make up the disk and it would be interesting to know whether your SMART has picked up on something physical or electronic. SMART for example can detect a failing cable and does thousands of checks on the IDE/SATA controller, it even checks the cache memory on the controller for errors, none of those things are related to activity. A repair shop could test your drive easily, but given the charges they make it's probably cheaper to get a new drive. None the less I'm sorry this has happened to you.
