Question

Photoshop CC OpenCL option greyed out - still not resolved

I am unable to use features in Photoshop CC 2017 that require OpenCL to be available.  The option to use this is greyed out.

I am advised by NVidia that my GU (GeForce GT705 (OEM)) is compatible with OpenCL 1.1.  I have the latest driver installed.

My query is - assuming my card is OK, why is this option unavailable to me in Photoshop?

Other users seem to have the same issue, but I have yet to see a reply that resolves this problem

Well, i'll confirm that with my new build (8700k, asrock z370) GTX 1050ti, the same thing happened. In BIOS, it has to be set to PCI, or Photoshop won't allow OpenCL.

I am so glad I have this feature. It makes such a huge difference with editing, for me at least.

Well, it seems I have solved this issues, at least least for me and my system.

I have an intel i7 4790K, Asrock z87 extreme 6 MOB, and GTX 970.

I was having the issue with OpenCL being grayed out in Photoshop CC 2018. I tried everything, including all the remedies here about the NVIDIA control panel and 3D settings. Nothing worked.

Interestingly enough, I went to the bios. I OC my system so am comfortable navigating there. Under the Chipset settings, there was an option to select graphic type, and it was set to use my PCIe slot. I switched it to PCI, and rebooted. Amazingly that option is now available.

Most importantly, it has dramatically improved performance, especially in tasks such as Pat Blur from the blur gallery. I'm saying it went from being super slow, to INSTANT, my CPU doesn't even boost up. This is huge. I can't believe having this option checked adds so much improvement, but people have so many issues with hit.

I also have this problem. Photoshop CC, fully up-to-date, on Windows 10 with a GTX 1060.

From what little I know (well, from what my husband knows, anyway), danny's solution ought to have the opposite effect except when the integrated graphics card is worse than the dedicated one, which is definitely not the case for me. Is that right, or is something else going on here?

Anyone else have any luck with Adobe support or working out a solution? Any other feedback on danny's solution?

Hi!

I had same problem, also all things updated, but I wasn't able to select openCL in the photoshop options. Big headache searching an answer for the problem, but then I though in something that worked for me.

The solution for me was so simple that no one could imagine. I ran photoshop as an administrator and the "oil paint plugin" finally worked. After that I just ran it normally and it keep working well. I guess that some actualizations don't apply or instal correctly if you didn't runs the program as administrator at least one time.

Hope this works in your case.

Do you have 'use Nvidia' selected for Photoshop.exe and Sniffer.exe in the Nvidia Control Panel/ Manage 3D settings/Program Settings?

Why OpenCL is grayed out in supported and updated graphics card?

Thank you for your reply ... I do not see that option in the Nvidia Control Panel/ Manage 3D settings/Program Settings when I open Nvidia control panel.  I have Option1 - Select a program to customize, Option 2 - Specify the program settings.

Is this more helpful?

Step 1: Right click on your desktop, and select "NVIDIA Control Panel"

Step 2: Click "Manage 3D Settings."

Step 3: Click the "Program Settings" tab, using option 1 "Select a program to customize" and find the game.

Step 4: Under option 2 "Select the preferred graphics proccessor for this program:" you want to select "High-performance NVIDIA processor.

Step 5: Click apply, it may take 30 seconds or so for the settings to apply. I think 3D settings is the menu option.
