Question

Photoshop consistently crashes (100% times) - Catalina

From when i upgraded to Catalina, my photoshop (always updated to latest version) consistently crashes after 10-40 minutes of work.

There isn't a pattern (it could crash when i save, when i use the brush tool, when i resize an imported image into a project, or anything else).

When it crashes the system starts writing at maximum speed on disk and causes the mac to slow down until i reboot it.

As you can see from attached screenshot it seems that photoshop start using the swap file to write something and causes it to get up to 70-80gb big.

This issue happens ONLY with photoshop. All other apps/programs work smoothly (lightroom, final cut, ecc...).

I already tryed to clean the installation using AppZapper.

My mac is an i9 with 32gb RAM, 500gb ssd and radeon 64 8gb.

Please help me fix this. I can't work any longer with this issue.

Welcome to hell. 28 pages of it (with utterly useless 'help' from Adobe's tech 'support':

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop/m-program-error-while-opening-or-creating-new-document-after-photoshop-22-0-update/m-p/11579321?page=1#M482769

It seems to be a problem with PS seeing the GFX cards. Not just Mac, win also. Weeks have gone by, they don't seem to care.

Time to switch software i suppose... it's 10 months i'm working with crashes every 10 minutes.

Adobe seems inexistent.

UPDATE: i kept photoshop opened after the crash and it actually resumed after 3-4 minutes.

So it isn't a crash but a HARD FREEZE.

This is the same stats (memory and disk usage) while using Photoshop any time BEFORE it crashes.
