photoshop crash

Do you have a dream? I know i do. To one day own a functional adobe product that doesn’t consistently crash. To never again have to experience a crash DURING a save which not only corrupts the working file but wipes the autorecover folder because Photoshop thought the save went well, losing two days of work that now has to be immediately all redone. It’s ok Adobe, I didn’t have any plans for the next 16 hours anyway. I’ve been hurt by you before, it was my fault to trust you not to completely make a mess of the bed.

Oh, and the hue/saturation properties bug prevalent in PS 2025 STILL isn’t fixed for 2026.

Most users with this problem have solved it with a complete reset of preferences.

Go into your user account and find the “Adobe Photoshop 2026 Settings” folder. Move the whole folder to your desktop so that a fresh one can be rebuilt.

This returns the application to clean, out-of-the-box factory state.

It also can’t hurt to get an updated Studio driver from Nvidia, not the Game Ready driver.

No dream here, just a reality. A full set of Adobe apps that almost never crash but work beautifully. All you need is hardware that is up to the task, and an OS that is working properly. A problem with crashes is that they can be self sustaining. Your system crashes mid-flow and files become corrupted. Photoshop keeps changes to Preferences and similar settings in memory while open, and updates them when it closes. If a bad driver or OS causes Photoshop to crash while closing, those files might well be broken.

So, think about your system specs.

Test your OS health.

Check firmware and drivers are up to date.

Research what logs might have information about what caused a crash.

I feel your frustration.

Mine likes to slowly use all 64gb of my systems RAM then crash. I have my task manager always open so I can monitor the RAM usage, save then restart Photoshop before it crashes… I don’t always catch it.

“it’ not photoshop bug, my use of system RAM works just fine!.
Did you try to delete all drivers and reinstall it again? Even mouse driver? And don’t install GAME READY driver! And try reset all your preferences and reinstall windows again. Maybe buy Wacom tablet if you use something else because Wacom is supported. Actually buy new PC and use just prompting interface on home screen. Who is doing actuall work anyway? @dbb_design Unfortunately you haven't given us any information about your system. Therefore, all proposed solutions are a look into the crystal ball

Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into a text file and attach it to your next forum post.

Do you have tried to restore the Photoshop preferences to the default settings?

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset

Manually removing the preferences files is the most complete method for restoring Photoshop to its default state.

If this doesn’t help you can try a manuallyreset of all settings.This method ensures all preferences and any user presets which may be causing a problem are not loaded.

Please follow the steps below:

Quit Photoshop.
Navigate to Photoshop's Preferences folder.
MacOS: …Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
Windows: …Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Note: The User Library folder is hidden by default. To access the content in the hidden folders see here:
MacOS: Access hidden macOS library files
Windows: Show hidden files, folders, and filename extensions in Windows
Drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to a safe place to a backup your settings
Open Photoshop.

Photoshop creates automatically the appropriate settings folder with the default values.

Are you saving directly to external storage or over a network connection? That’s not supported and very prone to problems. Save to local disk, then copy over.

Other than that, crashing is nearly always GPU-related. If you post the full Help > System Info, we might spot something.

There’s no bug in Photoshop that causes crashing. I haven’t seen a crash in ten years or so, and I do this for a living.

You didn’t read the sentence before it. If Photoshop crashes, there are specific causes, and those causes can be adressed.
