Photoshop CS5 Clipboard Issue (Win 7)

I have a copy of PS CS5 installed and i can only paste an image that i copied from before the program was started. When Ps is already started and I copy an image and try to paste it in PS it will paste the image I copied before I started the program not the one I just copied...

It's a pretty annoying situation... not being able to copy and paste once the program is running. I have to shut it down, start it up again to paste the image I want...

Anybody a solution?

I work on: Win 7 ultimate 64 bit - i7 - 8 gigs ram

You'd need confirmation from Adobe to be sure, but a quad word value is probably not the right choice.  I assume you did this because Photoshop is 64 bit, but it's not likely the Adobe programmers changed the registry access function (if it still exists) to use a quad word instead of a double word just because they're compiling for 64 bits.  The size of registry access functions is not normally tied to the natural integer size; you have to specifically code them to a particular data type.

Honestly, I've never tried reading a quad word from the registry with a double word access; since the Intel processor is little-endian it may well work out to the same thing.

i had exactly the same issue with clipboard in PS CS5 described by David Dobish above. I solved it by removing Selective Tool (64 bit) Pluging from NIK SOFTWARE. Now clipboard works fine.

After several months of working correctly, I now have the clipboard problem again.

The first clip will paste and never again.

    I have no new plugins.

I tried the rename, rename Plugins folder to no avail.

I have had this problem for some time. PS CS5 64-bit, Windows 7.  I tried renaming the plug in dir and starting PS and the clipboard works fine.  I put back the original dir name, started PS and the clipboard is broken again.  The only plug in I have purchased is Viveza 2 by Nik.

Just to be absolutely sure...  Find the Nik plug-in itself, and rename it by putting a tilde (~) in front of the name to disable it.  Make sure the problem follows just the presence/absence of that plug-in.

Assuming that specific plug-in is at fault, It seems pretty clear, then... You need to contact Nik and demand an updated version to fix this problem.

Breaking the clipboard is an absolutely unacceptable side effect, and th

ey can't very well refute that it's their problem if you present them with this kind of evidence.

    Same issue here.

    WIndows 7, PhotoShop CS5 64 bit

Only difference. I could paste about 2 or 3 different sreenshots before my clipboard wasn't updated anymore. Only a PS restart would clear the clipboard. I''ve been scanning this thread and saw a lot of pointers about Plug-ins. As far as I know I've none, that weren't there with the install, so I tried this and it worked.

    • I went into my PS CS5 64 bit folder and renamed the "Plug-ins" folder to "Plug-ins__" (to prevent them from loading)
    • Restarted photoshop and pasting worked like a charme (I've tested up to 15 screenshots several times and didn't notice any hickups)
    • After that I renamed the folder back, restarted PS, and pasting is still working.

So this is what I found out and I realize this sounds absolutely crazy. I'm not an expert, but renaming a folder inside your program files needs administrator approval. I you confirm, you can rename the folder. Same for renaming it back. So my guess, is that there are some rights issues on this folder initially, that mess up the clip board access. By accessing this folder for renaming, those rights get changed and you're back in business.

I know this is a thin one, but it's fast one to check for yourself and maybe it works for you. And unlikely, but maybe this is a new clue for the people of Adobe and MS.

    Cheers,

    Yves

    Hi there,

Even though I am running the 32bit version, I tried Yves solution and it worked.

In Windows Explorer I renamed the Plug-ins folder to Plug-ins_ just to change it. I launched PS and copy and paste worked perfectly. I quit PS, renamed the folder back and launched PS again. Copy and paste worked perfectly.

It's weird I know, but it worked.

    Cheers,

    Keith

Are your plug-ins still available now?

What a waste of time among the passionate.  Adobe could fix this but doesn't.  Keep going.  All  of you. Praise management!

And in turn, what a waste of time reading your useless post.

Just how could Adobe fix problems caused by a 3rd party plug-in, pray tell?  By disabling the ability to install 3rd party plug-ins?

Hi there. I am really late to this thread, and it's quite a confusing one. I am not sure what's up or down.

Regardless, I just wanted to say that I am having the awful clipboard problem. It really kneecaps my productivity.

I am running Windows 7 Professional x64, with CS5 32bit at the moment. I have no 3rd party plugins.

If I can be of any help at all in solving this problem, I will gladly pitch in.

    Cheers!

THREE PAGES OF POSTS OVER MANY MONTHS.  Imagine if this were a Toyota Prius with an accelerator issue.  Can you think of an industry where this is tolerated?  Dishwashers mayb?  ABOBE, get on it!  Put some resources to fix fundamental problems!

Please read the topic before posting.

We've spent a lot of time on this, and found that the causes were third party plugins and external applications (especially JDownloader).

We've forwarded all our findings to Microsoft, but there's currently nothing we can do about it.

    March 21, 2011

Chris - Thanks very much for the update. From all the work done to the present, do you have any guidance for Win7/64-bit CS5 users? For example, it seems prudent to check for normal clipboard function after installing any new plugin.

    March 5, 2011

I had the clipboard paste problem with CS5 64-Bit while using Color Efex Pro. Removing the filter restored normal clipboard function. Same filter with PSE 9 did not cause the problem as it's 32-bit.

Download of the config file fix posted by NIK Software wasn't successful at first, though I was successful after getting a tip from Dropbox support to add the ?dl=1 parameter to the url as follows:

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/794472/SelToolInst.cfg?dl=1
Copying the cfg file to the Selective Tool folder as described in the NIK Software post 88 solved the problem.

I was definitely having this problem on my machine, and the above registry hack fixed it.

    Windows XP 32-bit

    Core 2 Duo

    Photoshop CS5 12.0 x32

I have also had the same problem on my Win 7 / i7 / 64 machine. I haven't had a chance to see if the hack works on that environment, but I suspect it isn't environment-specific.

As far as I can tell, using Windows 7 x64 and Photoshop CS5, there is no limit to the size of the clipboard it will import, whether or not the AlwaysImportClipboard registry value is set or not.

I had the exact same problem on my one year old Acer Aspire 5738-6745 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended 64-bit.

The weird thing is, it only happened to me after I reinstalled windows. It never occurred before.

Anyways, I found a solution. You just have to open Notepad and type in the following:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Photoshop\12.0]
    “AlwaysImportClipboard”=dword:00000001

Then save it as AlwaysImportClipbd_ON.reg, close Photoshop if it is opened, and install the registry file.

    Doing this worked for me!

    Hope it helps!

this is not working for me..

Still having this issue (alien skin plugins installed)

    January 5, 2011

You should try to uninstall the plugin then.

All I know is that the plugin is not the initial problem, because I have never had it installed.

But seriously, using the registry thingy solved the problem for me.

    Sorry I can't help more

    Hi Josh,

The file you posted fixed the issue for me.

However I did have to install it both the "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" directory path you posted. I'm Woking on a Win 7 64x sytem and have both PS CS5 32x and 64x version installed.

Belay my last. I rebooted and the clipboard in PS CS5 64X no longer works. No problem with CS5 32x or CS4 64x.

Hi there from Nik Software! We have identified and resolved the issue. It requires a replacement of a config file so the easiest thing would be if you could contact our support team and then they can walk you through the process. This is only necessary if you're on CS5 (the issue shouldn't occur on CS4 or earlier). You can reach our support team from the following page:

    http://www.niksoftware.com/support/usa/entry.php?view=onlinesupport/usa_form.tpl&language=us

We're working with Adobe to prevent this type of thing from happening in the future.

    Cheers!

There is an FAQ on the Nik site that asks if you have a problem with HDR Effecx and

indicates a configuration file in zip format. However, the FAQ doesn't specify which

problem the configuration file is supposed to remedy.

Is this the configuration file that solves the clipboard issue?

No, that solves a different issue entirely. As I mentioned, the best way if you're having this problem is to contact our support team directly with the link I originally posted.

    Thanks!
