Question

Photoshop CS6 only shows tab when document is opened

Hello,

I am using Photoshop CS6 on windows 8 laptop. When I create a new document or open one up, the file only shows up in the tab but not the document window, would like to know why it does that, have not found a solution yet, has only happened in the last week. I have taken an image of the screen as a pdf for a clearer explanation but don't know where I can post it. Also illustrator works fine when I create or open a file.

Thanks in advance.

I tried your suggestion of turning off the "use graphics processors" under performance  & I can now open and create a new file in the document window, thanks for that, can I ask why unchecking/turning it off works.

Unfortunately that is no proper solution as it invalidates GPU dependent features (like the Rotate View Tool and some Filter acceleration for example) but it indicates problems with the GPU driver or the OS.

You could try updating the GPU driver from the GPU makers’s site … unfortunately it could also be that you would need to roll it back.

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

What have you done for trouble-shooting so far?

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels (Layers, Channels, Options Bar, …) visible?
