Photoshop has become unusable

Photoshop doesn't work anymore on my computer.

I'm on a MacBookPro late 2017, 16 inch
2,8 GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core running MacOs Ventura 13.6.4

Since the latest update (25.5) it freezes on launch without any chance to open the program

after several uninstall, clean of every details and library and re-install i switched back to 24.7.2.
I can launch this version, but i cannot open any kind of files from jpg to psd.

it freezes everytime.

i'm losing time and work paying for something that is more focused on AI playful gimmicks rather than stability and a professional service. (please adobe come back to earth.)

SOLVED.

Photoshop 2023 is now working with no problems, even if with low disk space (that has never been a problem).

Suprisingly i've found the problem managing my fonts on RightFont, and descovering that all my libraries where in a drobpox folder that became available only when in use (streaming), this caused a massive problem since every library should be downloaded before the use (causing slow down and freezing). This happened after a Dropbpx app update.

This explain also why JPG were regularly opened, since they had no Type layers, and why PSD where difficult to work with since there was a constant search for the used fonts.

I'll let you know if upgrading to 2024 is now possible for me.

The computer uses disk space as virtual memory, the less RAM you are using, the less disk space as well. My recommendation is a minimum of about 100GB free on your system drive, if possible.

@Kevin Stohlmeyer @Lumigraphics i know you're not debating my situation and i take the chance to thank you for your time and support on my issue.. it's just difficult to me to understand how something that has never been a problem, is now crucial for photoshop to work. i see several people complaining on how laggy and unusable ps has become.

anyway i have something more for you on this topic: after several reboot i've tried to close the creative cloud app before opening photoshop as a final attempt and guess what: everything worked fine, PSD opened and workable.
is there a reason for this?

Yes with low scratch disk space you will have crashes, both Photoshop and possibly the computer.

Not here to debate facts. Having a hard drive that low will cause issues plain and simple.

If your time is a concern, then perhaps its worth a try.

i think in the last 2/3 years i never had more than 20/15Gb and i never experienced any kind of problem. i'm not saying it's a good thing but i've always worked with no problems, even with huge files. now it's two/three weeks since everything messed up thanks to the latest update...

@albibello with only 28 GB scratch disk - Photoshop will not function properly. And its not a combination of multiple drives that causes other issues. You need at least 50 GB on a single HD available to even run Photoshop let alone open files.

Yes, both jpg and psd are in the internal HD. i can open JPG, i cannot open PSD (Ps freezes).

Are your photos on the internal SSD?
