Question

Photoshop Home Recent History Wiped

Hello,

On 9/30 I opened the latest version of Photoshop to my surprise when the Home Tab opened my recent history of edited photos is gone the programs is only showing 6 of the  60+ that I have worked on in the past 3 or 4 months. This is a massive inconvenience Adobe. How do i get my recent history back and why did it happen?

Best,

Charles

You really had Recent History set to 60 files?  The default is 20.  I usually set mine to 30.

If the recent file have gone, then have you reset Preferences?

If you have four recent files showing, then I would guess that you have saved four files since you last reset Preferences.

@Anshul_Saini’s  answer assumed this happened since a major Photoshop update. Is this what has happened?

    Hello Anshul,

I’m using Photoshop 27.10 it was updated 21 days ago see auto update see screenshot. Please note I have not touched the process. I can tell you when manually updated by me the recent history was always retained. So what's strange is if an updated did not occur all of the sudden what blew out the recent history home screen? I was working in PS on 9/27 opened the program on 9/30 recent history was gone.

Under file open recent only a short list of recent is showing along with some old stuff from long time ago same as home screen

    Hi @metropolics,

Thanks for the additional details. I understand the concern, especially since this happened without Photoshop updating at the time.

I can see from your screenshot that Photoshop auto-update is currently disabled, but the Advanced options are collapsed. Could you please expand it and confirm whether Import previous settings and preferences is checked?

Also, regarding the 60+ files that disappeared from Recents, were they primarily:

    • Cloud documents

    • Files saved locally on your computer

    • Files on an external drive

    • Files on a network/NAS drive

    • Or a mixture of these?

Please also let us know what Preferences > File Handling > Recent File List Contains is currently set to.

There’s no need to reset preferences or reinstall Photoshop for now. Once we have these details, we can narrow down what affected the Recent list and take it further.

    Hi @metropolics,

Thanks for reporting this. I understand how inconvenient it is to lose months of recent-file history from the Home screen suddenly.

Could you please check a few things for us:

    • Go to File > Open Recent. Do your older files still appear there, or does it also show only the same few files?

    • Did this happen immediately after Photoshop updated? If so, which version were you using before, and what version are you on now?

    • In the Creative Cloud desktop app, go to Preferences > Apps > Photoshop > Advanced options and confirm whether "Import previous settings and preferences" is checked/ enabled, as shown in the screenshot.

Share what you find, and we’ll be happy to investigate further.

    Best,
    Anshul Saini
