This has happened to me twice now. I have photoshop open. I left it open overnight and creative cloud tells me it updated this morning. And it Worked….only, I’m guessing it didn’t because the gradient tool is randomly not letting me drag a gradient. It created a gradient with a scale of 1% so it looks like a tiny tiny gradient. If I’m already moving the mouse really fast when I try and click and hold then I’ll get a gradient a Little bit longer, but that’s it.
I also noticed I can select channels RGB, not I can’t select alpha/saved channels unless I choose Select > Load selection. Holting Ctrl and clicking on the icon in channels doesn’t work and selecting the channel, then choosing the option in channels to select it does nothing.

I noticed PS updated the last couple times while it was open. Can I repeat this? I have no idea how I would try and repeat that, but it happened more than once and at least both of those tools are broken. I will likely have to uninstall, which means saving my actions and figuring out if I can save my window locations without saving my preferences, which I don’t think is possible.

Updates shouldn’t happen while the app is open. You should get a prompt to close the app before the update can proceed.

But in response to the actual situation, I would strongly recommend that you turn off automatic updates. Run them when you know what you’re running. You’ll be notified.

Open the CC desktop app and turn off automatic updates both for individual apps and the CC desktop app. They are separate switches.

Hey, @andymator. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out.

I've tried to recreate this, but I couldn't recreate it exactly. Please share a video of the issue and the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > Upload and attach here.

Please test and confirm if Photoshop (Beta) has an issue. You can get Photoshop (Beta) from the Creative Cloud > Apps tab > Beta Apps section.

    Thanks!
