Question

Photoshop Isn’t Just a Tool – It’s a Superpower We’re Still Learning to Control

Ever notice how every Photoshop expert seems to have their own magic formula?

Some use hundreds of layers, others rely on just three. Some swear by adjustment masks, others by smart objects.

But here’s the truth I’ve learned after years of designing – Photoshop doesn’t make you creative; it reveals how creative you already are.

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with:

  • Turning ordinary photos into cinematic color tones (without LUTs)
  • Combining AI-generated textures with manual brush blending
  • Using Blend-If layers for natural lighting – total game changer!

Now I’m curious:

What’s one Photoshop trick or workflow that completely changed the way you edit or design?

Let’s build a thread of real, underrated Photoshop habits that every designer should know – from beginners to pros.
I’ll start in the comments.

Hello!

how I love this post. To start with, I am one of those that swear by the adjustment masks. Very curious to know how you create cinematic color tones. I do like LUTs but open to learn your new ways, if you are willing to share.

I think that one thing that made my work more creative, is changing the blending modes for layers. Now I use a lot of combinations. Not to mention, inverting mask to reveal and hide small editing.

I know that many things can be done now in Camera RAW, and much of my editing moved there. But when I am working advanced and want to control every part of my work without worrying about how much time it will take, I am on my wacom and on masks and hundreds of layers.

I call 75 layers a good start...

Really inspiring insights! I completely agree about the power of adjustment masks and blending modes. They truly take creativity to another level. Thanks for sharing your workflow!
