Question

Photoshop keeps creating "Listener.log" file on my desktop (I don't have ScriptListener installed to my knowledge)

Photoshop decided as of last month to constantly create a “Listener.log” file on my desktop everytime I open the program (im running MacOS Ventura). I have never installed a ScriptListener plugin, my plugins folder is empty, the Presets > Scripts folder has nothing but the standard packaged stuff so I have no idea where this is happening. Searching my entire mac for “Listener” or “ScriptListener” brings up nothing also.

I have no idea why this is happening but it’s a little creepy to see a file called “Listener.log” appear on your desktop for no good reason every time you use the program. Any help appreciated.

    If it’s just named Listener.log then most likely it’s not from the ScriptingListener.plugin, but something else is creating it, but still follow Dave’s advice and start Photoshop with the Shift key held down to skip loading any third party plugins and see if that makes any difference.

    It’s also very important you tell us what version of Photoshop your running and in addition please post the contents of the Help>System Info from within Photoshop.

    Can you try the following.
    Delete the log file.
    Hold down the Shift key whilst opening Photoshop. When prompted, choose open Photoshop without optional and third party plug ins.
    Is the log file still generated?

    What version of Photoshop do you have?

    Does your Mac have have an Intel or Apple Silicon processor?

    Is the file on your desktop named ScriptingListenerJS.log?

    Have you opened the file by double clicking to see what’s in it?

    There are two places to look for the ScriptingListener.plugin

    Applications/Adobe Photoshop (your version)/Plug-ins

    and

    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CC

    Hey Jeff, if you read my post youll understand that the file that gets created on my desktop is called “Listener.log”… not “ScriptListenerJS.log” and as i’ve already stated I do not have the ScriptingListener plugin installed (the title even says this) I have searched my mac for it and checked all plugin folders associated with PS. I am running an Intel mac on Ventura.

    The contents are repeated things like:

    SPErr PlayeventNotify(/*your parameters go here*/void)
    {
         PIActionDescriptor result = NULL;
         DescriptorTypeID runtimeKeyID;
         DescriptorTypeID runtimeTypeID;
         DescriptorTypeID runtimeObjID;
         DescriptorTypeID runtimeEnumID;
         DescriptorTypeID runtimeClassID;
         DescriptorTypeID runtimePropID;
         DescriptorTypeID runtimeUnitID;
         SPErr error = kSPNoError;
         // Move this to the top of the routine!
         PIActionDescriptor desc0xe0 = NULL;

         error = sPSActionDescriptor->Make(&desc0xe0);
         if (error) goto returnError;

         error = sPSActionDescriptor->PutEnumerated(desc0xe0, keyWhat, typeNotify, enumFirstIdle);
         if (error) goto returnError;

         error = sPSActionControl->StringIDToTypeID("forceNotify", &runtimeKeyID);
         if (error) goto returnError;

         error = sPSActionDescriptor->PutBoolean(desc0xe0, runtimeKeyID, true);
         if (error) goto returnError;

         error = sPSActionControl->Play(&result, eventNotify, desc0xe0, plugInDialogSilent);
         if (error) goto returnError;

    returnError:
         if (result != NULL) sPSActionDescriptor->Free(result);
         if (desc0xe0 != NULL) sPSActionDescriptor->Free(desc0xe0);
         return error;
    }

    SPErr PlayeventNotify(/*your parameters go here*/void)

    Do you have a menu item in Help to Start logging events or Stop logging events. If so, see the help page below:
