Question

Photoshop keeps randomly displaying the home screen and freezing for several minutes.

It usually happens when I open a file, but sometimes it happens when I try to navigate an image (zoom, move, etc..) or make an edit.
This only recently started happening an update or two ago.. I'm currently on version 26.8.1 on Windows 11 and the issue hasn't been fixed.

YES, I've reset all preferences back to factory settings.  Didn't help.

Attached is a screenshot of frozen photosohp.  Nothing works.  No menus, no tools.. when I click away from the program, I can't even click back into it to see it again until the freeze is done.

Possible solution: Uninstall/Reinstall Photoshop.  I just did this through the Adobe CC Desktop program and so far the issue hasn't happened since... but it's only been a few minutes.
However, I notice that while I have several tabs (.png files) open, whenever I switch between them the home screen still flashes briefly, so I fear the issue will happen again in a matter of time.
I will update this post if the problem persists..
Till then, if you've got the same problem, try uninstalling and reinstalling through the Adobe CC Desktop app (not through windows or revo).

Hi, thanks for reaching out, and we're sorry about the trouble!

Please go to the Help menu in Photoshop, then System Info, and copy the text. You can share the info with us by either pasting it as a reply here or in a text file and sharing the file with us.

Since you've tried resetting the preferences and reinstalling the app through the Creative Cloud Desktop app, you can try disabling the option to Use Graphics Processor by going to Preferences under the Edit menu, then Performance. Once done, relaunch Photoshop to check if it helps.

Thanks,
Nikunj

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
