Suggest you seriously consider upgrading to 16GB of RAM as per above.  If your GPU is low end you run the risk of your laptop overheating and automatically shutting down.  You then have to wait until it cools down before restarting.  You can get a fan to blow air into the open-air slots, and you can also contact the manufacturer to learn about what setting you can use to optimize thermal management.  However, the most time-efficient solution will likely be to upgrade the RAM and GPU.
