Photoshop Marquee selection tool really laggy on an M4 pro chip

I moved from a PC laptop to mac a few days back just so that I can work on Photoshop/Lightroom with ease. It is a M4 MBP with 14Core CPU 20Core GPU. But I noticed yesterday that in photoshop, the marquee selection tool is extremely laggy and slow. the files are not that big either. just 33megapixel photos, single layer. it happened last night. Then i put it to sleep. This morning, it started working flawlessly. I thought there must be some small issue that got fixed. But now in the evening, its slow again. Am i doing something wrong? Memory is fine, CPU isnt getting hogged. Only thing i noticed that PS is taking Efficiency cores first. Can anyone help?  Recording attached.

Hi @adityaeclipse,

Thanks for sharing the video. Yes, that definitely looks laggy and is not the kind of experience you should expect on an M4 Pro chip. Let’s try to narrow this down a bit so we can get things working smoothly again.

• First, could you let us know if this issue happens with all files or just specific ones? Try opening a small image, something like a 1080p file at 72ppi, and check if the marquee tool still lags. This can help us rule out file-specific issues.

• It would also really help if you could copy and paste your Photoshop system info (from the Help menu > System Info…) here so we can check if anything stands out with your setup.

• One more thing to try: Go to Photoshop Preferences > Performance, and under History & Cache, set the Cache Levels and Cache Tile Size to the highest available values.

Let us know what you find. We’re here to help!

Best,
