Photoshop not updating smart object after edit content

Question

I open a smart object in the new window with a double click. After I edit it, it doesn't update anymore. The Save as... dialog window opens and I can only save as .psd file . It is no longer possible to update the smart object...

Please help me...

Have you opened a linked smart object that was for example a jpeg, but now you have added layers that are not supported in the jpeg format? If that is the case, you will need to either flatten the content of the smart object and then it should close as normal, or save as PSD then relink the smart object layer (Right click and relink to file).
